Googa mooga! I went to Ice Dragons early this morning and there were still 68 people in the sim but I could not find a single person alive or even doing anything. Is the Developer Incentive Award that much money that it is worth it to use camp chairs to get this kind of traffic?

Awesome. I want dead people at my place, too. Where can I buy some?

It's just plain ridiculous. Not really much else you can say. All 6 of the popular places (with Mature flag on) have camping chairs as part of their description.

You know, I'm not sure that LL really had this in mind for their developer incentives either and I guess they're probably scratching their heads as to the best way to stop it, or at least limit it. It's not good for them, or for the world at large to have parasites basically gaming the system so LL can pay them money every month. That makes no sense as they're not actually really offering anything substantial.

PS. Anybody noticed that the Island Sandbox has popped up in the list again. I thought they'd removed Linden-owned land?

I wonder how one gets that much dwell anyway, I once logged on a 16m piece of land, sat there for 20 minutes logged out, without visiting another area and the plot had 12 dwell, assuming others may have been on that plot at some point... does it matter how long someone stays on your plot now?

It's also quite sad when you see stores as part of that list saying that they've got camping chairs. There's a big, laggy monster of an ugly-assed bling-fest shop in the same sim as my store - and I see they've now got camping chairs as well and are on the popular places list. They've always dragged performance in the sim down and I thought they were suddenly looking even busier recently. Now I know why

Sadly RR, much like hourly announcements, ratings bonuses and llTeleportAgentHome(), the DIA will go the way of the dodo bird for it's abuses.

Well, I hope they have a good compensation plan for everyone that built a business selling and/or using camping chairs.

Actually it appears that 9 out of the 20 places listed in Popular Places with mature showing have camping chairs.

Is it for the developer incentive award or to cause the associated shop to appear with the highest traffic? I have to think it is the latter as there is a presumption that if a shop selling clothing has high traffic, it may be popular and good.

Unless something has changed, the funny bit is that the zombie herders (camping chair owners) are missing the fact that if an AV spends 6 minutes per day in one spot and goes nowhere else, the parcel gets all of that AV's traffic count for the day. Having the money chairs with zombies not only doesn't contribute to traffic stats, but it also lags the sim for the actual customers.

There is probably a small fortune to be made for an attachment that records if it had been any place other than the zombie park yesterday and talks to a "payroll clerk script" at the zombie park. The attachment would also have to detect whether it was removed. Why would this "in-house arrest bracelet" work? If I was really intent on gaming the traffic stats and was willing to host zombies to do it, I'd be annoyed that the zombie spent 6 hours at my place collecting money and then went and spent 8 hours somewhere else, I'd be out the chair money and not get the corresponding dwell when all I really needed was for the zombie to sit at my place for 6 minutes and then log out for the day.

I've just taken a look on slexchange.com at who makes these camping chairs and one of the people who does really suprises me, especially when the same person has been complaining about the gaming of the classifieds:

/108/ed/72887/1.html

Game the classifieds, game the popular places list - what's the difference? Complain about one, provide a means to facilitate the other.

Zombie Herders Unite! :p

My personal strategy is to go to the shops with the least amount of traffic in an attempt to avoid the crowds and to search out stuff people aren't looking at/buying at the moment....oh, and because I just have to be a contrarian. ;)

It's my impression that your avatar generates a certain number of dwell points per day. Let's just call it 10 (I don't know the exact number, But I may experiment now to find out.)

You can be logged in 5 minutes or 23.9 hours, and you still generate 100 points.

The number of dwell points a property owner receives is based on the percent of your time that you spend on any particular plot, with a 5 minute minimum.

So, if you're on Plot A for 10 minutes and Plot B for 10 minutes, each plot will get 5 points. If you're on Plot A for 15 minutes and Plot B for 5 minutes, Plot A will get 7.5, and the other will get 2.5 points.

It's not the actual time that determines the dwell you contribute, it's the ratio that determines how much dwell a single property owner gets from you.

Likewise, since the minimum time is 5 minutes, I believe that flyovers don't earn you any dwell. Also, dwell accrues until there's a large enough amount to actually pay out. I guess that this means the traffic number on your plot will go up until dwell is paid, and then it will reset.

I tried that.. but usually there's OTHER reasons people don't go there much... like the store's been gone for six months and it's an empty plateau or some other store completely. Now I shoot for the middle of the list.

Shouldn't there be some kind of check, so if the "owner" of the land changes the listing goes away?

When land that is listed in Find/Places is sold, the "List in Find Places" checkbox becomes unchecked, and the listing does go away. Otherwise, the new owner would suddenly find themselves being charged L$30 a week for something they did not sign up for.

Unfortunatly the answer is a firm YES and apparently some will stop at nothing to get it. Take a look at the winners and watch the map. I used to. Then I got sick of seeing no one in those sims, yet they got the bonus. Hmmm. Just started pissing me off so I just looked the other way. Kinda like LL does.

Ppl do not realize that when they steal the spotlight they also steal "content" from those who have worked damn hard to provide it. There have been many projects that bombed due to not recieving the development bonus. When the fact of the matter is; "if ppl had not been gaming the system they would of rec'd those development bonuses "fair and square".

We cannot be the change when those in charge refuse to admit the problems.
