camping got me my first chunk of change, also being lucky and winning on some lotto balls while i was camping.

find freeplay slots! they can be helpful and a bit quicker than most camping chairs.

poke around tringo, slingo, and the other fine games on sl. the multi-player versions don't cost anything to play (thought people like it if you contribute to the pot but most will understand if you're poor)

money trees are also a great source of cash if you're less than 30 days old.

The best way to make money is earn it any way you can, you will never make much from camping chairs, dance pads, money trees (which may or may not start to reduce in numbers or disappear in the near future anyway). Building is fairly easy and a good zero cost way to start trying to make money. If you lack in certain skills take classes at ASL and TU.

Yes you can, you can upload images to SL to use as textures, most builders/sellers do it as a way of showing what we have to sell while only using 1 prim instead of 10, or 20 or more prims that the build might have (useful when you rent prim limited shop/stall space).

If you are a good artist then sure, upload your images, and then texture a prim with them, but learn to texture first, learn to fiddle with settings and also learn how to texture only 1 face of a prim.

As to what do we make, it varies from person to person.. Some make clothes, other make hair, or furniture, buildings, jewellery, weapons, sculptures, entire sims etc. You find where your strength lies.

If you have a peice of work on paper, scan it to your computer, then either save it as a JPG, or open something like PSP (or Paintbox on an XP machine), load in the iamge and then save it as a JPG.

Once save you log to the grid (main grid - not preivew at such time as you can enter the preview grid), open the file menu and select upload image, pay the L$10 to upload the file. The file is then placed in your textures sub-dir from where you can apply it to any prim you choose.

If you're an artist, you might find designing clothing fun.

HERE is a link to Chip Midnights SL Avatar templates. They make it alot easier to design clothing as they show you what part of your image will map to what part of the avatar's body.

I design, or rent apartments, or rent stores at a mall I built. 50% to my sl hubby, 50% to me. Not rich, but comfortable. If I need more money I buy it, simple

Creating entire sims. From scratch.

Seriously.

I design and build sims to meet customer requirements, including planning for financial returns and viability in the long run. They pay for it, and I make it a reality. It's my best money maker. It's also a lot of hard work, but it's rewarding.

In SL I design sci-fi or semi sci-fi builds.
Mostly ships so far. Most of them are about looks rather than scripting but I try.
That area needs work I think. Maybe more features and such.
But it pays well enough for land and the rest goes to family. Bills

Anyway I should probably say that it's not just me. My RL brother and one other guy helps out with getting projects done. Brother does base texturing and a few concepts to give me something to work with. Another guy helps with market research, some animation, etc. And then there are quite a few field testers inworld.
I'm kinda stuck in the middle managing the groups, shops, scripting, design. Doing a little of everything. It's crazy.

Oh yeah and I used to camp. eheh :p
But that was back when chairs would pay out L$5 to L$8 per 10 minutes in some spots.

:addition:
I would say just find what you like to do in real life, or what you already do in real life for a job, and see if you can use SL as a secondary market.
If nothing else it's a hobby that might pay back. And brings more content to the community. :D
