Yep, I just called LL regarding changing my password. After being on hold for 17 minutes I got a recording basically saying that no one was available and leave a message...aaahhh!!
If they aren't there why the hell don't they say so in the first place?!
So, I didn't leave a message because I dont' want a call back. I dont' have all day to wait by the phone in case ll might call me back (doubtfull). Has anyone actually gotten through yet? I'll try again if so. If not I don't know what to do.

Doesn't that just annoy you when you wait so long and get a machine, or when it answers you get put through a voice system from hell which takes 5 minutes to get through the menu options... to be told nobody is available.
Just let the frickin phone ring, until someone is free to grab the line. We don't care if it rings for 10 minutes - because we aren't paying for it. We don't want to listen to some crap music or advertising for your product, we just want to speak to a person.
I'm half expecting this to be a call centre in India, just glad I don't have to ring because I was one of the rare few who actually used a real email address to sign up, and actually used a real answer for my secret question.

LOL, they are there silly. Think about it for a minute. Everyone who couldn't get in over the weekend is calling them right now. So that would be like, 25,000 people. Give them a break!

Umm I dont want to sound bitter but good luck calling LL. When I was trying to purchase a sim from them, I called them several times during business hours and never talked to a real person. They always had to call me back.

We do this where I work as well. After 15 minutes, the call is sent to VM. However, the caller does not lose their priority. As soon as one of the techs are off the call they were on, they start hitting voicemail. Voicemail then takes priority, as those callers have been waiting longest. If there are enough techs, the voicemail will be taken care of quickly enough to catch up and start taking inbounds as they arrive. Hopefully they are using a similar technique.

We don't want to listen to some crap music or advertising for your product, we just want to speak to a person. No can do, Lewis. When you call, a phone system picks up - often before even the first ring. When transferring to the proper department, the sound you hear on hold is generated from the phone system, so most companies elect to use music for this sound instead of incessant unanswered ringing, as this would be what the majority of people on hold would rather hear and it also tells you that you are in a queue rather than thinking you may have called a wrong number. It sucks, and sucks bad. But be realistic - there are thousands of people who are going to call today. There are not thousands of staff. When we do get through, let's try to help make the call efficient and quick, so the next people in line can attempt to do the same. I know there are things that we will want to say to them, but I think that getting the passwords fixed is the main goal right now, there will be time to discuss the fiasco in detail once everyone's back in-world.

Great to hear you got through, Hedgie. And really, 12 minutes is not that bad at all. The reps must really be on the ball - I bet the call was a short one. I was expecting to hear of hold times reaching into the hours today, but I see they shunt to VM after a set time.

You got voice mail? Lucky you, all I got was a voice telling me to do it by e-mail and a hang up.

http://blog.secondlife.com/2006/09/11/international-password-recovery/This makes me think that they would like more preparation to do international calls - you will notice they ask for native language. It would be chaos right now for them to take calls in many different languages and to try to pass them around in an efficient manner to the ones who can speak it. In cases like this, outbound calls are the way to go, as they can determine who will handle the call before the call takes place.
