My friend has a 20k m2 lot of land which he spent weeks building his house on. Well today he logged on to find it was all gone. It was returned to his lost and found folder. Obviously he contacted linden and they are looking into it but no answers yet. Funny thing is anything on the land that belonged to someone else was still there and did not get returned. Ofcourse the auto return option was not on by the way.

Has his ever happened to any one else? Do you know of a possible bright side to this that I can tell my friend since he is very distressed over this? Should I be worried that this may happen to me?

Thanks all.

Is the land deeded to group? If so, another officer of the group could have returned only his objects while leaving everyone elses. That's the only thing I can think of, but I imagine the Linden helping him would have thought of that first as well.

Is it possible that your building crossed the property line into someone elses property or into protected land? That woul cause such a thing to happen.

It is not gone, however. Just take it from lost and found and put it back out.

Unless there are three-hundred prims all labelled "Object". Then you're shagged.

I also have been having problems with my land, but only certain things are getting returned,so i placed them again and still a return. And to top it off 3 items totally missing.I am on my land I have checked property lines and still have 1000 prims available no auto return set either. What really weird is the message I got was my items were returned to my Lost and Found from a totally different sim not even anywhere close to mine. The Lindens have 3 reports from me still no answer. How many more problems after tomarrow will there be?

I think this may be related to the vanishing prims I've seen. Several times I've clicked on a something innocuous during building and the entire object I was working on vanished. Sometime they are returned, sometimes just gone.

I do a lot of backing up as I go along now.

BTW, linking is not always your friend, it appears that this vanishing is related to working on linked objects.

At the very least, if you have, say, the basics of a house all linked together and saved in your inventory and it poofs, it's pretty easy to drag it back out of your inventory and set it up again. Learned that one the hard way. But as far as the click-on-it-and-it-vanishes phenomenon, you got me there.

LL did get back to my friend. They said it happened through his account and no hacks or those types of scripts caused it. He may have unknowingly done it but swears he didn't? I was there yesterday and just by chance I checked his auto return setting and it was off. So we are both a little lost but there is nothing he can do about it I guess so back to the drawing board for him!

He did label all the pieces so that should help but he did not link anything. The prop is not connected to protected land an he was in his boundaries. Also, it was not deeded to any group.

Thanks for the input everyone. My buddy has read this to and it's nice to see at least one other person has the same problem so he is not alone. Hopefully this is just a fluke! I'd hate to wake up tomorrow and have all my stuff gone. It would be a lot more comlicated then just dealing with one big house.

Thanks againg :)

Well I see this is a WIDESPREAD problem here today. So I guess LL first answer to my friend was very incorrect.

At least now he can be sure it was not his fault.

A friend of mine came to my home and was building a one prim item, nothing fancy and nothing complicated. As soon as they put the texture on it the prim disappeared and didn't even end up in their lost and found folder either.
It just poofed and I don't have my land set to return objects at all.

No, wait, your post was from early in the day today. The widespread problem was caused only an hour ago by a gridwide attack, and unless everyone completely missed the widespread content loss starting much earlier in the day, it seems like your friend's issue is unrelated.

Yes, I thought about that after I posted. You may very well be right? Kind of funny though that these would both occur today. We may never know if they were actually related or not but for my friends sake, I think I'll just let him believe it wasn't his fault ;)

Due to weird physical cube I encountered, AR'd and LiveHelped last night that repeatedly said it was looking for 'Object' I'm going to say this has been building since at least last night.

That happened to me last thursday, I finished a mock-up body for a ship, linked all of it, before I could save a copy I had a phone call, looked back, it was just fooking gone.
Not returned, saved, apparently not moved to <0,0,0>, it was big enough to spot in mini-map, so I checked neighboring sims, nada.
I had to start over.
