So here is what i have decided. It isn't an issue of free speech and it never was for this guy, so keep preaching free speech all you want after all it is a free country. There is no way to bring this guy down no matter how hard anybody tries but it will get to me until something gets done about the blackmail, land extortionist scum.

There is only one other thing that will bring such a heated debate as politics and that is religion. Religion has the power to bring together or seperate and destroy nations and it always will. So now i will start buying plots of land and posting religious signs all over SL with the hopes of bringing more chaos than anything SL has ever seen just to try and get the Lindens to understand that sometimes you just have to step up and say enough is enough.

Because two wrongs always make a right.

Hey, its your money for tier and you can do whatever you want on it. Same rules that apply to the Bush guy apply to you. LL won't shut you down as long as your signs are within the TOS, but you sure will get a lot of love from your neighbors.

I thought up a similar plan. I thought, if I had the money, I would buy up bunches and bunches of little plots and put up huge signs that said:

IMPEACH HILLARY CLINTON!

Get Hillary Out of the State Legislature!

Don't Let This Criminal Get Her Commie Hands on the Presidency!

. . . with big pictures of Hillary on them.

I started thinking this because it occured to me that Linden Lab may (a) love the sentiment expressed on the Impeach Bush signs and (b) wish to slant the population of residents towards toward those who share that opinion. (Surely not.)

Now I don't actually feel that way about Hillary, at all. And of course, I don't have the money to do it anyway. Plus, as Cory just pointed out, it would be mean to the neighbors everywhere, so I guess I wouldn't even do it if I had the money.

But - someone else will. Not necessarily about Hillary, or Bush, but something along those lines.

Furthermore, as Second Life goes to the Metaverse, and this becomes an open platform, Linden Lab risks lawsuit in court and will, I repeat WILL be reverse in court.

Politics, religion, etc... all the same... if LL allows em, won't surprise me to see signs like "Free Saddam!" , "Satan Rules!", "Heil Hitler!", "God is dead!" accompanying these anti-Bush signs...

Here's a much easier solution to the whole problem which, I believe, would only affect a tiny percentage of the population - and none at all if they follow the solutions I give.

The basic premise of my thought is this : How many plots of land does the average user actually need?

The basic solution: Limit each account to owning up to five separate plots of land, regardless of total size, which the user chooses by the land tier they want.

The majority of users probably have just one large parcel of land. I have two adjacent plots within my tier, which although they could be linked are not because of streaming audio requirements, and a couple of tiny plots I bought partly to use as advertising and partly to stop someone else abusing them. But I don't really need the advertising, so I wouldn't care if I didn't have them

What's the benefit of this? Well, you wouldn't get griefers dumping signs all over the grid, for a start. This would then require a lot more effort as they would need to make multiple accounts, and be paying for the privilege anyway.

The only people that potentially lose out in this are Land Barons... which, although I think would be a big bonus for the game as a whole, is not my intention in this particular suggestion. A simple way round it would be for those who wish to buy and sell large amounts of plots to register as 'realtors' and pay an annual 'premium' to allow them to own extra plots of land, which I am sure wouldn't dent their obscene profits in the slightest, and if it did they would probably just pass it on to the customers and screw them even further....

Give everyone a month's notice of this change, so that people can either:
 1. sign up for the premium to keep their multiple plots of land
 2. dump or sell their excess land

If people choose not to follow either of the above options, then on the day when this is implemented, those with more than 5 plots lose all but the 5 largest they own (all objects return to inventory), and a token payback of, say, 3L/sq m given for that which they have in effect abandoned by not following either of the options.

I think that covers pretty much every single option, although not necessarily to everyone's satisfaction. However, the individual is much less important than the whole, and sometimes sacrifices do have to be made for the benefit of the majority.

Too Bad Linden doesn't have you on there payroll. You seem to be the only one that has thought up an intelligent solution to all this garbage. While they sit around and wonder what they can do about it.

Prokofy Neva has a reasonable petition, written on a notecard, in-world. I think if you IM him, you can get a copy to sign (or even all the toolkit.)

Though I think solving behavioral and griefing (ToS-skirting) problems with only technology is not possible.

There will always be loopholes, and even if 99.9% of the people will play by the rules, one person will exploit the loophole to grief the others. Then another technical restriction comes in, making it harder for the 99.9% of the people to do stuff, but still doesn't solve anything.

There's a box of that you can take a copy at Coco's Cottages, right next to my property (see siggy for address). Whilst you're there, you might want to take a copy of my 'anti land extortion' sign floating above my property.

Is that supposed to be some kind of lame threat?

If so - you are cordially invited to go play a rousing game of 'hide-and-go- f*ck yourself' - sorry but intarweb threats don't make me shiver in me booties.

Go back and look at what you wrote - '(see siggy for address). ' - now look at my name.

Now if you can't see someone making a joke - perhaps you should have waited till LL made the last name 'tard'.

(and yes - it WAS directed at you)

I think the only time LL actually stepped in and changed someone's land was when one of the WWIIOLers built a concentration camp complete with bodies and furnaces.

And even then it caused a bit of a controversy.

It's not even about free speech so much as it is just that he paid for the land and he can do whatever he wants with it. And then that it's a slippery slope because if they finally decide to ban that guy for putting up ugly signs on his land, then what? Those landbaron's for sale signs sure are similar...let's ban those too. And hey, wow that build is really ugly let's make him take that down until he gets something that looks nicer. And so on and so on and so on until you either have to buy prefabs or be at a level of competance for building to put up a house. It's an extreme case but there's my point, if you start with one thing then why not another.

He's done nothing wrong ToS wise, infact it's been done before him. Anshe did it with Dreamland, slapping her signs all over the place. Metadverse did it with it's billboards, buying up only small plots of land and then sticking a sign there.

It's not that I agree with what he's doing, just saying that he's not doing anything wrong, the only thing you can do really is just deal with it.
