Not sure if this goes here, sorry if it's not in the right forum
I noticed in the police blotter, the following entry:
Date: Wednesday, October 26, 2005 Violation: Community Standards: Assault, Scripted Objects Region: Sandbox - Weapons testing (no damag Description: Use of weapons. Action taken: Suspended 7 days.
So, say i'm building an explosive or something, but don't want to keep dying in rausch while i refine my script. SO, i'd take it to the weapons test sandbox. If the script is a bit off, or someone is too close, i can get banned for testing a weapon in the weapons testing sandbox? can someone please explain?

I don't think that's the sort of thing that will get you AR'ed. But imagine if you were working on your device when someone decided to start testing their weapons on you. Sure, it's a weapons testing area. Keep your head down, stay clear of suspicious objects, keep inside the yellow lines. Accidents can happen. But if someone starts maliciously shooting or pushing you about, well, that's no good. If I'm going to test a weapon on an AV, I'll do it with a consenting target. Not on someone who's just trying to work on their gear.

My question is why are you working on weapons in an essentially non-RPG online game? This isn't a first person shooter as far as I know. There are plenty of those elsewhwere.

It's fun to shoot people, fire laser beams at them, pick them up with a gravity gun and throw them around, trap them in cages, launch cows at them using catapults, etc. All the things one would do in real life if it weren't for physical law, morality, and revenge.

Susie It can be, and is circumstance, sim, and game dependent. Platform remember? Not simply a 'game'. Personally I recommend Frag Foo for choice, sensor based 'any sim'-'any time' game with some truly neat FXs. ^.^

Actually, there are roleplaying and fighting areas in SL, which is precisely why there is a weapon testing sim, and as far as the testing sim goes, I think they should make an anti push type thing or computer targets or something. It's not cool to get bombed like that when people should clearly see that you're working on something.

From: Susie Boffin I'm not. I hire people to do that stuff. Meant it more as an ironic restatement of your question, y'know. The point is, some people want to do a lil' of everything. I myself don't get into fighting much beyond the occasional game of Portal Wars, which can't be done elsewhere. (Given that the ability of anyone to submit weapons to the admins for consideration is a big part of it.)

LL obviously believes SL is good for wargames--they've opened several sims strictly for battles and weapons testing, and there are gun-totin' mamas all over the website.
Personally, I can respect that some people want to break out of the creative confines of tailored wargames and make their own battleships, guns and etc. On the other hand, it would be great if human beings got over the whole war thing, and space marines make lousy neighbors.

I don't know; there's worse fates than a world where violence is stripped of all permanent consequences, becoming no more meaningful in itself than a card game; a form of counting coup at most. Hm. Unreal Tournament as Vahalla. Discuss.

what other platform can you create a teddy bear that attaches to someone, humps their face, then explodes when they talk? =P ah yes, the joy of SL, creating anything your random mind can come up with, no matter how rediculous it is =)
Also, if you're not a fan of weapons and combat, stay out of rausch, the weapons testing sim, and jessie, as i will stay out of furry camps, and sex clubs. The ony key factor of SL that makes it the digital equivalent to crack is the ability to do whatever you want, there's a place for anything and everything you can think of. if there's not, you make it =D

Unfortunately, staying out of Jessie and Rausch does not prevent sandbox marines from moving in next door and drawing attacks on a daily basis, leading to crossfire mishaps, lag, and sim crashes.
