i think that there should be more non flying zones . and i think that all roads should be a non flying zone. this would emplicate more ppl walking around or drving ships that fly or cars on the road. pls vote if u have anything u might wana add pls do.

No can do. We don't have a fully connected roadway system. There are roads but no roadway system at all.

What do you mean by to paraphrase: "fly on roads". You don't fly on roads; you fly over them.

I don't see the problem with flying over roads.

If you're talking about flying 1 meter above the road surface, then I don't really see the problem with that either. Except, no matter what you're doing, you shouldn't impede other people's travel.

Frack, clicked the wrong button. One of those 'no' replies should be 'yes'.

You can't arbitrarily restrict flight over roads, because most people who try to fly in SL have a hard enough time finding unrestricted airspace any more as it is, with all the arbitrary parcel bans people put up. Imagine flying at 300 Meters altitude, barely aware of the ground, if at all, and 'running into a wall' because a road is below your flight path. Or worse yet, crashing because you happened to overfly a road.

If anything, I would say make all Linden properties, and especially roads, always free flight areas (which I believe is true now). In some congested sims, flying along a road may be the only way to fly through the sim at all. In RL, flying above and in line with a road is a somewhat common practice in private aviation, to keep from getting lost and to avoid flying directly over homes. Works the same in SL, though the road network is less reliable.

BTW, I always either teleport or fly. I couldn't care less about those roads. I never use ground vehicles, because the road network rarely goes far enough or in the right directions to be the least bit useful to me.

i was just sugesting that we make a road way system and make it a lil more relistice in SL

That would be kind of cool, but I think that would only happen if:

* There were no sim border crossing issues.

* There were more roads.

* The roads would rez faster (have the same priority as the ground).

Then more people would want to drive. Making the roads any kind of no-fly zone won't achieve that goal.

No NO NO! A thousand TIMES no.

Don't tell other people they should be grounded just because you want to see more traffic. This virtual world shouldn't have artificial limits like that. In the real world, you're on the highway and you see planes. And in remote desert roads some people claim to see UFOs.

Do you know how much fun I've had swooping down as an alien and landing in the roadway when other players are driving there?

Do you know how much fun THEY had?

If you have your way we can't do that.

It's hard enough flying without bouncing off people's parcels because they want to be curmudgeonly and keep people out. That shouldn't affect flyers either because we're just in transit from one place to another. Rather than introduce MORE artificial limits to fliers we should be doing AWAY with them.

And that's just great. I clicked the wrong voting option. Well, my prior post should more than adequately convey my support for flying over roads. Let me also add that making roads -FLY is just plain unworkable. How would you have the system work when an aircraft already in transit flies over the road? It just instantly crashes into the ground? Instantly de-rezzes?

Let me also include this transcript recorded when some of the first major SL highways were put in place (this happened somewhere south of Myrtle I believe)

Name of other party kept anonymous in case they dont want to be quoted.

KevinStarwaster: hahahah, I was cruising along in my new saucer when I saw 2 people standing outside their car on the highway
KevinStarwaster: so I landed and this is the conversation that ensued
KevinStarwaster: UFO whispers: Initiating Landing Cycle.
You: you know
??????? Pendragon: Starwaster?? :)
You: statistically speaking
??????? Pendragon: heya
??????? Pendragon: :)
??????? Pendragon: statistically speaking?
??????? Pendragon: lol
You: most UFO abductions happen when you are broken down on some highway in the middle of nowhere

??????? Pendragon: LOL!!!! i was just thinking that
??????? Pendragon: reminds me of Close Encounters
