I hate to be so blunt, but I feel that this is a very poor piece of communications. I am glad I found SL through an article in Newsweek and not through one of these invitations. No wonder none of my friends have joined or even called me back to ask what it was all about. It looks like spam, it reads like spam, and it probably gets deleted first thing in the morning. OUCH! Such a great product, such a generous referral program, and such an awkward looking e-mail.
I am sorry, I did not even mean to write about that. What I meant to ask was this.
It says
"try Second Life for 7 days, free" and "To try Second Life for 7 days, absolutely free"
This must be a throwback to the previous account policy, right? Or should I expect to see a charge on my PayPal after I have been here for 7 days? (And I think I have!)
If this language is outdated, it should be removed immediately. In today's marketing, it has become a GIANT turn-off. I know it is for me. Try subscribing for something free for a week, two weeks, three months, and you'll end up paying for it without remembering you had done it with an intent of cancellig. So, as a result, I NEVER subscribe to anythign that offers one week free.
I wonder how many of my friends who I tried to get interested in SL passed on it because of the "7 days absolutely free".
Oh, and if this really is the way it works, please let me know!!
Hey, lest I sound ungrateful or inflamatory. What a great product! THANKS! I am totally hooked and can't stop talking about it. So you have to understand my frustration when I actually sell a friend on it over lunch, he asks for a referral, I send one, and three days later he asks when I am going to send him the link. I am guessing he just did not expect something that looked like this.
If I can help out by suggesting specific changes to the letter, let me know.
Start by putting my name (if I was willing to provide it) in the "From" field as opposed to "support@secondlife.com" - which the recepient never heard of and instinctively reaches for Delete.
I am sorry if this topic has been discussed. I searched.
