One blunder after another....

Endless stream of bad calls and poor implementations.

Last night I read the posts here and got worried and checked my account to see Linden labs just charged my debit account 150 dollars. My heart fell in my chest. I thought my card was already starting to get fraud charges!

Then I realized they screwed up and charged me instead of my university for the sim we bought last month. Still a big mistake but fixable.

Linden labs, I changed my mind, PUHLEASE sell Second Life. Sony, EA, Apple, Microsoft, Witch of the West, the Devil himself -- we don't care.

Your Zen of Linden or Tao of Incompetence whatever it is just does not scale. You have no idea how to run an IT service. You have proven this over and over and over in the last couple of months. You sure can innovate but you simply can not sustain what you create.

Stop the incompetence, stop the insanity, sell us off, anything, anyone will do. We simply don't care anymore.

Thanks for letting us play, it was all fun and games until you gave away all our personal data, encrypted or not. But the game has gotten serious now, and this is no longer fun.

I am so dissapointed, I am officially out of things to say.

Now you may close the forums and ban us all, but it will not make the truth go away.

Good idea. My friends list is down yet again, 6th time in 13 days. Friends found online using search cant hear me, nor do they show on the map. Friggen pathetic job Lindens. After 3 years we are given a world of gray goo, horrible lag and sims that cant handle the load if more than a few people are in them. Our data isnt safe and hackers seemingly can bring the grid down at will. Adam Lindens asks all his guests on Linden radio what they see for SL in five years, gosh, get serious, if this is the best you can do after 3 years, who could reasonably expect that with upcoming competition from new SL like games there will be an SL in 5 years. Pumping up user numbers by giving out free accounts to undocumented underage players on the supposedly 18+ grid isnt the same thing as growing by producing a quality gaming experience. Proof is in the pudding and you are burning yours. Either do the job right or get out of the kitchen.

Sony? These are the guys who sneakily put a rootkit on a music CD.

EA? Are you familiar with EA's method of operation? LL is A++ compared to them.

Microsoft? .....whose products hold the worst record for bugs, exploits, and security compromises anywhere.

Apple? What happens to your data when a Mac crashes? I don't know. It just freezes and goes *poof*. I don't want my AV, builds, and inventory going poof during a crash.

Witch of the West? Well, she ending up bringing the house down on top of her.

The Devil? Slightly laid back, easy going fellow, but he'll just suck the soul right out of you. Second Life is addictive, but do you *really* want to give up your soul for it?

I agree as well... except for the fact that I am no longer a paying member, so for something that's free, it's great. I feel sorry for all the users that invested strongly and were victim to the bait-and-switch by LL. There is a major lack of integrity and it is so aparent to all the SL users that have been around for longer than a few months.

...But, I can't complain, I don't pay LL anymore. I guess it's just upsetting of the potential that SL had. And to all the people that are financially invested into the SL world, don't blame LL when things go wrong and you don't get proper explanations.... you know what LL is about, and if you still want to continue to invest, that's your decision.

You are aware that even though you don't pay LL anymore that your credit card information is still on file and was still compromised? They don't delete that even if you cancelled your account and downgraded to free.

Actually coincidentally I had my credit card account that LL has cancelled about a month ago.

but, I'm still very concerned just as everyone else is. And I agree that LL is a buffoonary...

Wrong compass point ... while the Witch of the West was terribly misunderstood .. it was her sister, the Witch of the East upon whom Dorothy was so inconsiderate as to drop her house.

As for Troy's point ... I concur. The problem is that LL has already demonstrated that they have stoppered their ears, and blinkered their eyes. No telling what is in their line of sight, but it certainly doesn't include their customers.

So, his point that it would be difficult to find someone to do worse is quite compelling.

There are other witches that live on the West Side. This may not be the withes from Wizard of Oz. ....could be the blair witch... she lived on the west side of the woods and was evil.

i'v been saying they need to sell to google or partner with google for some time now i even told this to thrax linden, google has the power the capacity and the technology, i truely hope this is true

I really hope SL is bought by Quizno's cause I reaaaally love their subs.

I don't think being purchased by another larger company is the answer to Linden Lab's current woes. As fond as I am of Philip and some of the other members of Linden Lab's staff, I do think some new leadership is needed to carry Second Life and Linden Lab forward. Philip is a visionary and a brilliant man, but I am not sure that his leading by love method, which works well for a small trendy company, can sustain the exponential growth that SL continues to experience. It seems to be coming apart at the seams. This security breach is just the latest in a series of missteps - technical and social.

This security breach, and the severity of it, is a wakeup call that change is needed from the top down at Linden Lab. The recent release of search data at AOL resulted in the firing of multiple employees and the resignation of the CTO. Someone does need to take responsibility for this mess at Linden Lab, and that includes replacement of leadership. Customer trust has been severely damaged, and no amount of "it's the fault of the hackers, not Linden Lab" is going to change that fact. Only a swift, definitive, and visible action to address this and take responsibility for it has any hope of restoring customer faith.

PS - for those saying "I would rather have Google than Microsoft", Google is the new Microsoft, with a much scarier reach than Microsoft will ever have. Most people are just too busy gleefully turning over their information to Google to realize it until it is too late.

I'd much rather keep Second Life the way it is minus big business because when big business steps in, big business will get rid of most things we like about second life to increase their profits.

I thought second life was great because of the original vision. If you put people in that don't share that same vision, second life will go down the drain.

Alright actually google does have something going for them that let's say Yahoo and AOL don't.

When the NSA demanded AOL, Yahoo and google give them information on several thousands of people's search records...

Google told the NSA hell no and told the NSA they would sue for trying to get that information

However, Second Life even with the security breach would still suck if big companies had their say in how things are run and I personally don't trust them.
