Some may disagree, but every since the patch ....well known places that were lagging like crazy are back to pre 1.10 status as far as the lag has gone down tremendously. My store has been so laggy since 1.10 (i have alot of textures and objects) that going to work...felt like...well.. work. Now the FPS is tolerable again. I tested "The Edge" also and saw an FPS increase from last week. GOOD JOB!

And no more "rubberbanding" when crossing Sims.

I was pretty worried that this patch would be another FPS gone, but no.... it resolved alot of issues that alot of folks were complaining about.

Thank you very much Lindens!

I agree with you, I'm getting more FPS with each update. Specially this update was good. (Maybe that's cause I have the new ATI 6.8 drivers which have improved OpenGL).

Ihope so. I can't wait to get home from work and test it out. :) The last two weeks have been horrible for me as far as lag goes.

I have one of the most common nVidia cardds out there. You are right about ATI getting with every patch, but this is more than client side improvements....Its actually Sim improvements i clocked em using the built in tools a week ago when I got my new Laptop..... They (highl populated sims) are running 2-3 better than they did before.

lol no I don't work for LL, but seriously if we bitch when have a shitty update... then we can and should praise them for a patch that solved alot of problems, right!?

Withholding judgement so far, but my initial experience was that some things seemed faster. There is a lot yet to fix, and some nasty bugs relating to not seeing land area in 'about land' and not allowing estate managers to subdivide parcels, but yes, it does seem faster, so far.

I am happy to report that the horrid lag I have been experiencing is greatly reduced, yay! But, I have to say, this was caused either by the previous update or some other reason because nearly everyone was complaining about it the past two weeks. But I'm grateful it has been fixed, yes, I am. :)

Some of the best game developers, it's much harder to code in OpenGL, but the results are often better. See recent examples:

http://www.prey.com/ (doom based -- Doom3/quake4 etc)
Chronicles of Riddick

etc.

The cool thing about OpenGL is the ease of portability, thus you can easily compile the code to run on a Mac as well as Linux. While DirectX based games are strictly m$ restricted (unless used with an emulator -- purpose defeated).

I've been playing prey recently, it's one of the most unique games I've played so far, and definintly one of the most visually advanced.
