People fleeing?

So last night I was bebopping around Beverly Hills which WAS one of my favorite places to shop. Always had a good mix of new designers and established and its laid out nicely and not *too* much lag. Imagine my surprise when I found most of the shops empty! Now I know people like Vindi have her own island now and I can see why she would have removed her shop. But a lot of the smaller shops have flown the coop.

So then I decide I want some retro stuff to go with Sylfie's great new shoes. So I go to Pollyesther's. What the hell happened? Its like half the shops are gone!

Well then I decide to go to Larsen. WTF its gone! I mean it just up and disappeared. There's like.. trees and snow and this weird place where you can buy slaves on vendors where it used to be. WTF WTF WTF!!!????

Of course before I could buy Sylfie's great shoes I had to TP to one of her shops. So I know she keeps the full line at Simone's. So I try to TP there. So sorry the teleport tells me -- that sim is gone. WTF? (was able to get there this morning though and it all seems to be alright). So I try one of the sims in her pics. There are turkeys walking sideways all over the place. That weirded me out and besides the turkeys were lagging the sim so I went to JD Mills and that was ok but WTF? Turkeys? Simone's gone for an evening? WTF WTF???

And then I notice that new products and sl boutique, which used to have lots and lots of new stuffs every day, hardly has any on any given day these days.

Whats going on? Peeps leaving SL? Peeps getting tired of designing clothing? Whats going on?

There was a change in policy regarding having vendor space there recently which might explain why some shops are gone. But I think they are planning to redesign the whole place as well.

If you're looking for Fashionably Dead, Yummy, etc.. , Barnes Boutique or Nylon Outfitters head over to a sim called Deimos. They are all there.

The whole sim of Larsen is up for sale. It might already be sold.

Nah, most of the designers in both of these locations have shops in other locations. You can find them by peeking at their "picks" in their profile window.

Simone is still here... but if you see turkeys... well, that's just one of the mad coders 'experimenting' with something. :) That or someone slipped a little too much whiskey in your coffee. *grins*

Not exactly sure. Go to Sylfie's profile and look at her pics. Its the one that isn't Simone's and isn't JD Mills. City something. Beware of Turkeys.

Why are you a villian?

I was a vendor at Pollys and one of the Owners of Larsen, and i dont think its a matter of people leaving, its that bussinesses are evolving to meet the demands of the more competitive SL market, I would say the problem isnt people are leaving, its that we have so many coming in!

I think these are the long term effects of p2p teleportation. I personally feel the old bussiness theory of "location, location, location!" was turned on its head with p2p. not to say its a good or bad thing, but it definatly changed the way we choose are shop locations. For example I can now teleport from Panache to Simone! sim faster than you could walk from Panache to Simone! in Larsen and see both of their whole selections.

One major trend I have been seeing is a move from many smaller shops/malls where you get lost in the mix to one large mega store/location shared with several other like minded designers. With p2p teleportation it makes more sense to have one big location than any number or large ones. Of course a few smaller stores in well placed high traffic areas help increase exposure, but only to a point.

Not only do places come and go physically like Larsen but also places loose popularity. Maybe check out some newer places instead of checking out old favorites. There are still some great places to go and check out whats new!

Well see that's what I liked about Larsen and Beverly Hills and Pollys... I found new people there. I love the mall areas like that because I get to see new and up and coming designers.

I'm starting to do it by using the search feature but I really do miss those places.

As the Resident Turkey expert, i did a inspecting. And not to worry. Those Turkeys are modded versions of my turkeys. You can see them properly behaving at Frans Innovations. ;)

One thing about SL is that it's "here today, gone tomorrow." Builds and stores move all the time. I bet half of my landmarks are invalid... Also, as Barnsworth pointed out, p2p teleporting changed the way business in SL is done. People no longer need several stores in prominent locations and if a business is successful enough to cover tier on a sim, it makes little sense to have 5 other small stores. Those scattered stores DO drive traffic and introduce designers to shoppers, so it's a bit of a catch 22.

Tragic admission - I've encountered those turkeys somewhere and spent ages chasing them around.
