It seems to me that folks are confused these days about what makes for valuable criticism--enough so that an anonymous best and worst list would be considered constructive criticism by some, or comparing a new builder's first work with a professional builder would be useful.

Also, I contend that anonymous star ratings (which can easily be gamed) are problematic and give the makers absolutely no valuable feedback (unlike the ability to post).

What are your thoughts?

Constructive criticism, from me, comes from wanting to see someone improve and grow in SL, as opposed to making them feel bad. This way, we can both feel better about ourselves and each other.

Stars don't give context without a comment, so to me, they really aren't stars at all, but rocks.

I dunno Persephone. Being told that I suck is far from an insult. Maybe we need new terminology.

In fact I once heard my husband telling some other guy that he had the cleanest peepee (not his exact words) in town and I was angered until I realized it was really a compliment!

Rock stars! Awesome.

Anon. best of/worst of lists and ratings without comment are fairly useless. The worst of list is more of a comedy bit at the expense of other people. Ratings without comment, even if done honestly, don't really help. "You suck" isn't as good as "You suck because nobody wants Hello Kitty textures on a spanking/torture rack. It ruins the mood."

Interacting with customers and getting thoughtful feedback, listening openly to complaints, noticing repeat customers.

Responsible criticism invites discussion. Anything one-sided is not responsible.

I have to say that you never know about the hello kitty auto spanking machine. Anime-loving lesbians in a BDSM contextualized relationship may be a niche market for such a product. ;-)

SL does have a corner on "Anime-loving lesbians in a BDSM contextualized relationship".

Aimee loving lesbians in a bdsm-contextualized relationship:

"Ow! the braces mistress..."
Mistress adjusts her 'What Would Aimee Do''wrist cuff and growls
"Quit yer sniffelin'or i'll strap you to the hello kitty spanker!"

*chuckles all the way to work*
