IMs AHHHHHH

I dont know how others feel about IMs but I hate them.
You go into a club and wham you are hit by IMs from strangers with comments from Hi to do you want a ****. This has happened even if there are only a few in the area. It would be great if there was some way to liming IMs to your friends list or that if some one IMs you a window pops up to allow them to continue.
When I am IM i reply in open chat and often they answer me in IM again even if I tell them I dont IM. I have even been told off with them saying they just want to talk in private, well just cause they want to use some sad cheesy pick up line that they are to embarrassed to use in public that is their problem.
SO please please can we have some way to turn them off, this could also help with spam from groups.
