When I create my account it shows a female. How do I change to a male. Please help!!

Right click yourself and choose 'appearance'. There will be a box with the options "male" and "female" with which you can endow your avatar with a coin purse or duffel bag.

When you go into your appearance (right click on your av and choose "appearance" from the pie menu) in-world, you should have a choice under "shape" that has a button for male or female.
