a peep placed a box in a casino - which had a message displaying (roughly) 'Linden Labs is currently collecting for 'Toys For Tots' please donate'

it also displayed a message saying '18312 l$ collected so far'

a peep nearby - cdawg dripp - asked if i was donating - and i did- but as i donated i noticed it said 'paid cdawg dripp' and as soon as i did he picked up the box and left with it

please do not donate to any inworld charitys unless it can be comfirmed - ive lost out already

(You may want to edit out the name of the person for it is against the TOS.)

This sure seems fishy to me and a report on the person should be sent in to LL. If said person is faking a charitable gesture and keeping the money for his own benefit then he should be hung from the nearest Linden tree. I have nothing but utter disgust for a person such as this...

Ugh - that just sucks.

This is a legitimate charity - but it sounds like a scammer has copied the image to pass it off as their own.

I'd make sure that Kismet Muromachi and MeriJayne Hornpipe from the legitimate Toys for Tots fundraiser are aware, and hope you filed an AR.

Pretty sleezy :(

Or perhaps this Cdawg Dripp character is going to forward the money on to the charity?

People are always so quick to shout scam.

I think that people should be careful when donating in-world. If you are concerned, check out the person who is holding the money, ask other people what this person's reputation is. This isn't 100% foolproof, but it is one safeguard.

the reason the name is involved and ive posted it on here is because he said linden labs was doing the charity drive - as it has done b4 with the walk for cancer and other charitable events - after he left in a hurry i checked linden labs website, the forums and even asked live help and a couple of lindens - they all said there isnt any news of this happening, the names inc so that other peeps dont make the same mistake

yes there are peeps who do charitable things in sl and collect for them - i have donated to such charitys (shockproof, live2give, etc) but they do not use linden labs name and they dont place them in other builds (prominently like they were durin the cancer charity drive) so they look like part the build then run off with them

check who built it - check the website - check the forums

ps using the linden labs name for profityable reason is against the TOS - therefor he reliquenst his TOS rights

Linden Labs does not hold charity events, and that should have been your first clue. They sometimes provide land or space, but they never process the donations, US$ or L$.

:( That makes me really sad. Aaron is right, LL won't hold fundraisers of any sort. At best, they will co-sponsor. Just for the record, I have never heard of this person & they are in no way affiliated w/ the fundraiser Kismet & I are running to benefit Toys For Tots. As a matter of fact, yesterday, someone named (i don't think I can say now that I think of it) was asking content creators for donations towards our raffle. He then gave me notecards that were supposed to be "gift certificates" from this & that person. Funny b/c the notecard said I didn't have permission to view it LOL. I hope anyone who reads this doesn't tie what we're doing to that. You can look at our Toys For Tots Elves group & see who the officers are. These are the ONLY people we have working w/ us to assist in the fundraiser.

On a lighter note.. we've extending the seasonal display to run the rest of this week & the raffle will be held on the 15th, so there's still time to buy tickets!! We've almost reached the $100,000L mark thanks to you all! XOXOX

Anyone can and will assume a charitable facade if it suits them and they wanna scam a few $L's off of us.

I am NOT up on who and all does the REAL good works, I did donate to Pathfinders cause a bit back cuz his name was attached.

NEVER feel bad for TRYING to do the right thing...we live and learn and inform.

In all seriousness, I won't donate my Lindens to any charity within SL. I'll go to the legitimate websites of charities and donate there. Then I know it's real.

I'm sure there are some within SL that are legitimate, but there's no way to know for sure. We should all give what we can for legitimate charities, but do so wisely.

"Picked up the box and left with it" -- how untechnological, and yet how funny.
