Y'know I'm kinda amazed (well not really) that more hasn't been said about the ease of border crossings at speed in various craft now with the 1.7 client. No more slowing down to 20-30% of throttle, no more becoming partially unseated, no wild jerky bounces or direction shifts, or in mouse view seeing every nose-ring, prim hair or glasses worn filling your screen, or falling out at 600 meters as your plane/what-have-you zips merrily on off into the void, or breaking of craft et al and then trying to find plot to re-rez said on, or anything! Smooth as silk, crossing after crossing in mouseview and keyboard, at 80%-100% of throttle, all the way across the continent! and back! This is fantastic! I think vehicles in SL just got a heck of a lot cooler. ^.^ At risk of sounding like a 'kiss up', Lindens? Fab job! Really grand!

Do car still sink into the road at sim crossings?

Hmm, time to dust off my 2004 vintage Cubey Terra shuttlecraft and see this for myself!

Are we playing the same Second Life?
I haven't noticed any sim crossing improvement in 1.7.

I haven't noticed any sim crossing improvement in 1.7. It seems a bit better to me; I just drove one of Ardith Mifflin's mouselook vehicles from Eldora to... uh... forget the sim that's directly across to the eastern edge... but it did so swiftly and without much in the way of the staggers.

Working for me, and swimmingly so, prior to the latest update (1.7.*) all of what I wrote above about border crossings made flying between sims at best a annoyance. Especially bumping through at less than 30% throttle and the head attachements showing up in mouselook, and being forced to reset view on the fly. If you're still seeing that bug Francis I guess its possible we are playing different games at that. This morning flew back and forth from Calbeck to Eldora non-stop 80%-100% throttle and in mouselook, smooth as silk and yesterday about Abbotts, it was a joy. ^.^ Suppose I should add some caveat 'individual milage may vary'? *shrugs* <

From: FlipperPA Peregrine w00t! I can't wait to try of my Lyre Muse hoverbike once I get my computer back from the shop! Wow! still in the shop? my heart goes out to you, on the plus side you are only missing a lot of patching (and technically you are probably not missing it) On sim border crossing at speed I have noticed that it is better, less sink into the ground time, and at altitude less likely to have your car / bike / plane / balloon / flying turbo chicken stuck in a build..... However if you do manage to stick a moving physical object inside another solid object it's bad news for your connection hehehe, plan to relog. (some things don't change) Sadly on preview there wasn't much oppertunity to test a laggy sim and sim crossing since most of the time sims were empty there or they don't supply you with a laggy enough sim. Crossing from Freelon to Da Boom on preview was fairly smooth because the edge was void of the usual there.... rambled on enough, bye

You must remember there have been people that cant even move around (ie cant even walk) in SL since this patch, so dont be surprised if your vehicle performance varies as well.

sim borders

i have my land on two diff sims, one is my house, the other has my garden. i tend to sink into the floor a bit when crossing, and my follow me pets don't follow. but it is a minor annoyance at best. if you get a chance, check my picks and see the pictures of my wonderful castle and garden. truly works of art. and i can say that cause i didn't build either of them

Wearing a 300+ prim avvie, driving my faithful Terra Tigershark....

I've not ghosted.
I've not been unseated.
I think we need to celebrate.

I haven't noticed any sim crossing improvement in 1.7. I'm still falling all over the place in my plane at sim borders, but have not been ejected forcibly from it yet (after ten minutes of flying) at 28m/s. This is the longest I've survived in the air in this plane! The corollary to my observation is that the scripting for this plane is totally overwrought (quite literally 50+ scripts, but only half a dozen active ones) and likely poorly optimized-- I imagine it is a hefty load for the incoming server to swallow. Even four-corner crossings un-hiccup after perhaps 2 seconds. Amazing. Currently crisscrossing the continent. We'll see if I make it. Edit: Okay, I started in Weber (SE corner of main continent) at 2:45:45. Argent in the NW corner of the continent (longest direct shot across the continent) is about 10500m away. I am traveling at a constant 28 m/s in this horribly overwrought plane of mine. Ergo it should take 375 seconds (6:15) to get to argent. Extra time will be because of border lag. Edit: Test complete. It took 10:45 to reach Argent. So, almost half the flight (4:30) was spent falling through the sky as neighborig sims handed me off. To be fair, a direct NW flight path hits a lot of sim corners. And the plane is of course hideously overwrought. Also, I made it the whole way without getting unseated. That is totally unprecedented!

I haven't noticed any sim crossing improvement in 1.7. I have to agree with Francis I saw this thread earlier, and was given the link to Francis new car : The Shadow (yeah ill plug you , that car is amazing, great job), so I dropped some lindens on what is prolly the coolest vehicle in SL thinking it was time to enjoy the many roads finally. like i said, the car is phenominal in everyway, ease and accuracy of control being the best, however, hit a sim edge and plow straight down into the earth or spin off into the atmosphere. Sure the spinning and wonkiness only lasts a sec, then u get a few secs of great driving through the sim center, then at the edge, more flying away and other hallucinations. I may have more time to enjoy but the Shadow handles flawlessly at insane speeds through the sim, only to meet up with SLs sim border insanity every time. I am very pleased with my purchase of the Shadow, however, I wish there was a "platform" that i could drive it on. You'd think with all the roads in SL driving would be great...
