I think that was for the update after this one. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong though. Also, there will be two person groups, and better group tools!! :D

LL said they were working on the group system, but they never gave it an estimated date of completion. It was never mentioned in the release notes for any build of 1.9.1/1.10, either. One linden said raising the limit to what it is currently was pretty much hacky to begin with. I suspect itll be raised when they finish their new group system.

Edit: Argh, I'm slow at teh postings! :(

The group limit will be raised when the new group roles stuff is released.

The new group roles stuff is NOT in 1.10. It will NOT be in any 1.10.X. It may not be in 1.11! I do not know which version it will be in. It is in internal testing now. However at Linden we have several projects that are being worked on in parallel, and it is quite possible, maybe even probable, that one of those will be ready for release before group roles has finished testing.

Unfortunately the larger the group the more resources it takes as well. Which is why we are so weary of increasing the group limit too far. Increasing it will create both more groups and make groups potentially more resource heavy. With an unlimited number of groups we would have LOTS of VERY large groups, which we currently aren't set up to handle.

However, as I said, we will be watching it after this release to decide the next step. Maybe that is some re-architecting to make it easier to host more groups, maybe we can add some new 'thing' to make it easier to say you identify with a group of people when you don't need the full 'groupness' of a group, maybe it is something else of many possibilities. Or maybe 25 is a good number for max groups.

The above was posted on 5/20/06, it's really disappointing to read that basically you did not unequivocally state that group limits were going to be increased this release you did imply it. I guess I need another skirt for all the sunshine that's been blown up it recently.
