The two most established third party SL forum sites are the SLuniverse forums at forums.sluniverse.com, and the Second Citizen forums at forums.secondcitizen.com . SLU's forums have been around since 2003 and at times have been active. Second Citizen is newer - about a year old I believe, and is active, but with a small number of people posting regularly.
Both forums offer freedom of posting without fear of TOS violations- the SC forums has no moderation at all as its policy. SLU (my site) has a light moderation policy, mainly dealing with RL information - depending how the closure plays out, I will adjust the moderation to suit a variety of users (as in having some forums unmoderated, others moderated), but it would still not be very heavy as I prefer to allow people as much freedom as I can. _____________________

With all due respects Cristiano, there are no established SL Forums outside LL forums. sluniverse needs a major revamp. secondcitizen forum seems to be mostly spamming and trolling. In what way does it need a major revamp? _____________________

Yes, the crowd can be pretty rough -- but it's basically these forums with the gloves off. Yes, there's trolling. There's trolling here too. sluniverse has forums but I can't log into them. I don't know why. My snapzilla account works fine, thankfully. _____________________

The 3rd party forums with their low moderation will not suit the purposes of LL because their main reason for shutting down the forum was information flood (i.e. we talk too much and they can't find our important stuff in the clutter).
Perhaps we can setup a forum that has very strict moderation and no off topic posts. A forum like this is what the SL community needs to communicate with LL. So we can have the strict forum for intelligent and sober LL communication while the other forums are where we can continue the madness. _____________________

People are more than welcome to use the forum system at my site. It runs vBulletin 3.5 and is standalone from the main site. Right now thre are just a few forums dedicated to the parts of SLHandbook that are being developed, but I'd be happy to set up whatever forum structure the users want.

I believe that once Forumites are required to leave, the activity on alternate forums will increase drastically. I think sluniverse will suit me better than SC, but I will go to both.

The posts on SC are a bit too raw and mean for the sake of being mean for my taste. SLUniverse is an excellent venue that I highly recommend for the forum migration. _____________________
