I try to make my avatar look good, or at least decent but GOD, whenever she steps into the light of day or light of anywhere else she's downright hideous. Which is odd, because whenever i go anywhere dark or when night comes along she looks fine great. Is this the case for everyone or am i just missing something? I bought a a shape too, so i know it's not just me screwing up my appearance.

Is local lighting on? This feature reflects harshly on avatars in my opinion. Especially if you're just using the default SL skins, some photoshopped skins look good in local light though.

Tnank you, thank you, for bringing a well needed smile to those reading the forums today! In the midst of an outbreak of attack fever it was really great to smile at the title "I'm always ugly, except at night!"
My tip: try a different skin for daylight, one that is a bit darker with makeup that is softer, such as pastels or earth tones, rather than deep gem tones. This seems to counter that knife in the back harsh surprised look avies seem to acquire in some day light settings.

Late to the party, I know...
Suggestion: try making/editing your av(s) in daylight. Er. I know that sounds flippant, but I'm serious -- if you find yours look good in the dark but not the light, make one in light and see how it looks in the dark. Worst case scenario, you can switch between the two with the light changes, but more likely the one that looks good in the light will be fine in the dark as well.

This thread reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Jerry's girlfriend at the time looked hideous or pretty in different types of lighting. I think Kramer called her a "2-Face" It was a rather funny episode. Thought I'd share heh.
