Stepping up to explain why I'm not a pervert.

Well, who am I kidding, I AM a pervert, and so are most other people whether they admit it or not. But I'd like to explain to you a little bit about why my ageplaying isn't any more (or less) perverse than Gor RP, yiffing, BDSM RP or any of a double-dozen other 'kink' roleplay scenarios that happen every second of every day on Second Life (and on its text-only precursors, the MUSH/MUX/MUCK communities).


I dimly remember being in high school. School itself sucked, but those were the years when I became sexuall active and that was a great deal of fun. It was all new and exploratory, a learning experience for me and my slightly younger but somewhat more experienced lover. I ageplay to get back to that feeling of newness and exploration, a way to shed my jaded, adult views of sex and re-experience the fun of it all. It's no different than the BDSM submissive who likes 'giving up her freedom' to her Master/Mistress (though anyone who's seriously into power-exchange will tell you that a submissive actually wields a great deal of power over how such play takes place, at least before things get started. Hard limits and safewords anyone?) It's no different than the furry who imagines himself to be a powerful Alpha Wolf killing machine (or sex machine, if that's your bag, baby). It's playing a role.

I have a son who's just turned 4. I have eight neices ranging in age from 3 to 29. If anyone hurt them, sexually or otherwise, I'd be right there in line to lay some pain on their abusers. That said, I don't harbour any illusions. Teenagers have sex, and usually it's consensual and with other teenagers.

Now, I can't speak for the ageplayers who play pre-pubescent roles, but I'm sure there have reasons behind their choice similar to mine, beyond the simplistic, narrow-minded 'I like to watch teh little kiddies getting boned hur hur hur' mindset being presented by their detractors.

So for all those who have been asking for an 'ageplayer' to 'step up' and 'explain why they're not perverts', you've got your wish.

So you play a teenager, Stephanie? The thing is, even those who age play young teenagers aren't what get people riled, especially since the average age of any given avatar could be 18. Thrown in a schoolgirl outfit and that makes 20% of the female avies "age players".

I think it's the image of an avie that looks, oh, 6 years old doing sexual things that upsets people. I really do wish people who do this would get an alt and just talk about it, maybe it would clear the air on all this a bit. People talk about the other "perverted" things we do, it seems to help others accept or at least understand.

Joshua, quite honestly, anytime this or any other "hot" subject is brought up, the person making the outraged post is outnumbered 10 to 1 and screamed out of the thread. I really don't think that helps anyone. If there can be a rational discussion about this without "u sick pervs should be banned" OR "get the fuck out if you don't like it self-righteous shithead", I'm all for it.

I think so far, Most peoples problems haven't been with the age playand other role playing lifestyles so much as their own interpretations of the Motivations behind them. Show someone a Picture of any sort and a Good percentage will make the most lurid interpretations.

The fact is, the General Public tends to be Very judgemental of anything they do not have direct experience of. If prodded to explore further They approach the subject complete with all their preconceptions and Ignore everything that does not support their point of View. In some cases this attitude becomes so extreme that Incontravertable evidence Contradicting their point of view is Completely Ignored in Favor of a series of Invented facts.



Now, Tell me, and Be Honest. In answer to my question above, Most of you Immediately thought the answer had to do with Urinating. It does Not. The Correct answer is "Shaking Hands".
I can Picture some of the Most prim and Proper among you Blushing right now as the answer streight out of "Emily Post" did Not Occur to you while the more Potty minded one did with Great speed (Not that i Truely expect any of you to Publicly admit it, but when asked in Person it never fails to elicit the Incorrect answer). You wanted honesty. Well here it is. I did think of the urinating. But, that was because I knew that was what you would think most would. Had you just plain asked I would had thought about it and probably said something like. Well is that a trick question. Which in a way, yes it was. Not to say that I'm happy that that isn't the case and yes, I'm very pleased with the true answer. I am usually open minded and I have no problem what people do on there on place here or even in real life. I just don't want to be one to watch certain types of things. If it's your property and you have a building there then in my opinion do what you want inside it. I don't and won't use means to see you. I really don't care about that. If you are outside however in a public place. To me that is totally different. And, that is just my feelings on any of this.

This sort of opinion also bothers me. As a gay man I consistently hear this same sort of veiled homophobia under the guise of "acceptance." It's not. In SL definitely people, certainly in Mature sims, have every right to do whatever they want on their land with respect to the neighbors and visitors. But respect doesn't mean "I don't like this and I can see it so you have to stop." If you have a problem with someone "ride the hershey hiway" on their property, then how about YOU move, because perhaps they don't enjoy you sticking your face in their bukkake in the first place.
