I'm sorry I used Linden Answers to have a little fun, while some residents are still using it to achieve 'Linden Answers'.

In my experience, the 'Linden Answer' has been to STFU and stop complaining. Be it lost content, policy questions (they don't even know what their own policies are half the time!), sims running like mud when there is no obvious reason why, or griefers invading my property, disrupting my enjoyment of this rock-solid 'monetized socialization platform' or whatever VC friendly bullcrap they're passing off as their paradigm this week, or just whatever.

The Linden Answers forums has been for quite a while a place for 1> Noobs or fake noobs to ask questions that could get better and faster responses in other forums just because they can 2> Residents making ridiculous, impossible to implement or unfair to others demands, 3> Technical questions for devs that really need their own sort of forum, 4> Threads trying to get a LL rep (usually Torley) to show a sense of humor and humanity, something their normal customer service is SORELY LACKING.

So I'm sorry. I'm sorry Kelly has no sense of humor this morning, and I'm sorry I tried to get a smile or two out of anyone. I'll go back to my bitter nihilism now.

It's rather a joke. I waited all weekend, while many Lindens were on holiday, of course (which is not a problem, of course), to see the answers to the questions about keeping the forums.

The answer was - a link to the stupid BLOGS. Which have on top something about log-ins being reinstated, then something about log-ins being closed, and so forth.

That's about as good a non-answer as the answer Torley gave to, "When will the forums be closed," which was something like,

"It will be posted to the blogs shortly before the forums close."

It's starting to seem an awful lot like EA around here.

P.S. Yep, the new motto - to go with the SL icon - should be, "Talk to the Hand."

So, your summary point is that you are, in fact, pretty sorry?

I think it depends much on the type of question you're asking.

If I'm using SL Answers to ask a technical question, or clarify policy, I've always had good results myself.

If you're using SL Answers to resolve a support request, or as a sounding board to give Linden negative feedback on an issue, the results are mixed at best. The chances for an undesireable result also seem to grow at a rate directly proportional to the level of negativity selected in your choice of words.

IMHO, its all about funneling your message through proper channels. While many use Linden Answers like a 'Hotline to Linden' (as the forum was originally named), I don't think Linden originally intended for it to function that way. Although I think part of the issue, is that the 'proper channels' are neither clear nor sufficient to everyone.

Not to say that Linden Answers can't be successfully used to send a public message to Linden. I just wouldn't be surprised if the forum response you receive wasn't what you were hoping for.

In regard to Reality's OP; honestly - I'd consider a single joke post harmless humor, depending on which Linden is doing the moderating that day. Multiple joke posts would probably fall into the spam category, and only serve to push legitamate questions further down on the post list. Once a post falls off the first page, a Linden response tends to get dicey.

Meh, she's just trying to do her job. I can understand her not finding it funny. I know that when I am busy and have tons of work waiting for me I don't find it all that amusing when someone starts making jokes that delay me.

It's not her fault the forums are closing, she just works here.

Heh, didn't really think I demonstrated a lack of humor. I responded to the jab at furries with a jab at forum trolls. I moved the howls to the bulletin forum. Should I have inserted a joke about some religous figures and/or lawyers entering a drinking establishment somewhere? ;) No disceplenary action was taken whatsoever. You asked more seriously about my actions - I guess for moving that thread? - so I responded more seriously.

As for the Linden Answers forum in general ... it does get some varied use. There are quite a few posts that I am sure could be answered as well or better by some of our residents. There are some that truly do need a linden answer. Torley actually does a pretty good job of handling all these cases, answering the "easy" ones (and many not-so-easy) and finding the lindens who have the answers for the others. I try to help out every now and then by poking my head in and answering a few that I know the answers to. I really don't have the time to both be a developer and read all of the forums, yet I know that the communication is important. My compromise is to pay pretty close attention to the Answers (or rely on Torley letting me know if there is something I should see), and poke around the other forums as I can, which isn't much.

And lastly: Vares, I'm a He. :)

Dude, chill.

Kelly didn't rake you over the coals, and your question was less dumb than some of the idiotic comments I've seen.

Public forum apology? This thread seems like more of a waste of bandwidth than your post to Linden Answers, and your post on LA may have actually been helpful... too many people keep hearing "the forums are ending", when that's not true! It's simply the more "general" forums that are closing. The board itself will still be here, just with fewer places to post. (they'll just be the technical stuff)

I get frustrated at times as I see poor new people posting desperate questions in Second Life Answers but I can't answer. I wind up going inworld to IM the person if I can help as they always seem to have PMs disabled.

It would be nice if there could be an immediate help forum that anyone could post to for silly things like "select only my objects" or people who don't know they can log in at any location. On the other hand, they don't know it's an easy question. On the OTHER other hand we residents frequently know more about the UI than the Lindens do. Two things I recently had to explain to staffers who didn't know what I was on about: debug permissions and copy selection.

Once there was a post with a little story in which Kelly was a slave girl - I almost choked on that, I laughed so hard.

I had Altrumia Linden put on a slave collar and be my slave for about 30 mins. It was quite fun. :D

In all honesty, though, that's what that hand symbol is going to mean to me forever after. It fits. ;)
