Maybe this has always been the case and i did not relise it or something but over the last few days it seems that I cannot search on the forums with any term that includes the word "Linden." I was searching for a post by "Catherine Linden", so I enter that and I get an error page in the browser (page does not exist). So I try "Catherine" and np. Try "linden by itself... error page. I was also looking to find out info on making trees sway like "linden trees" but if you enter that search, you get the error. Enter "trees" and you dont. I have tried this with lots of terms over two days now and as long as the word "linden" appears I get the error page. ?? Is this normal? has it always been that way? PS - I should add that I use Safari on a Mac to do the forum and (Lindens take note!), large parts of the forum dont seem to work on the default Mac browser as a sort of "base condition," but I have gotten used to all that. I was sure this particular glitch was not happening before the last update and is new. (at least I am fairly certain that I am absolutely sure )

If you were searching for a post by Catherine Linden then do this: 1) Click Search 2) Click Advanced 3) Type "Catherine Linden" in the "Search by user name" space 4) Click Search Now button
Tada.

One thing that always gets me about this forum search setup is it has the search by exact user name always checked. I have to uncheck it before I search lest I end up with no results.

Tada. Odd. I've done searches before like Dianne mentioned, and always came back with the same result - "Page cannot be displayed". But just now - I went thru Annah's steps - and sure enough, it works like a champ. No clue - but I swore I've seen the behavior Dianne explained before myself.

I should think its too much of a common term.. Should think 2 in 3 threads have the word Linden in them..

I was talking about the regular search, not the advanced search. The regular search was fine until ( I think) the last update, then all of a sudden it started rejecting searches with the word "linden" in them. At least I never had it reject a search before. I suppose it's possible I literally never searched for the word Linden in the six months or so I have been here, but I dont think so. I haven't checked the advanced one because it's way less handy to do an advanced search for most things. Just as an aside... none of the "editors" that one can use to compose a post have ever worked for me at all. I dont mean they are not handy, I mean they simply fail to function at all. Anyone else ever had that? (and are you using Safari?)

Could be that the string "linden" is in so many places that the server would expend too much effort in retrieving the posts. As for the post editor, yeah. Doesn't work very well on the Mac -- Safari or Firefox. That's a vBull thing, though Oh well.

Anyone else ever had that? (and are you using Safari?) Ha! As a follow up I tried "advanced" and it works as stated if you use the name field, but if you enter "linden" in the search terms you get the same error (page cannot be found). So there is a workaround for finding postings *by* the Lindens, but no way to find posts with the word "linden" in them. Soo..... (jumping completely off topic...) Anyone know how to script a "Linden Tree" wind effect for plants? I'm guessing "llWind" of course, but a couple of hints would be nice.

Go to the advanced search page and search for the word 'world'. That's one example of a page that, for me, nothing happens - it doesn't load a page or anything (in fact do it from the search drop down as well). I've come across a lot of these over the months, but that's the only one I can remember. I can only presume it's used on too many threads, and the process just quits.

The odd thing is you can search for the word "world" and limit your posts to posts since yesterday and it still returns nothing. Almost as if its not even trying.

Is "land" another of those words? I can't seem to get anything out of it.

As a forum searching freak junkie.. hehe.. I can tell you that this actually happens pretty often Dianne. And has been happing sporadically at least over the last year or so. Or pretty much right around the time they switched to this software for the forums. At any rate, if you don't search for at least a few things every day like I do, I can see how you missed having this happen to you before. It's a royal pain.

Try going to advanced search, unchecking the exact name checkbox, then go to the bottom of the page and save the search preferences. My exact name box comes up unchecked.
