Do You Have Local Lighting Turned On In Prefs?

Hey guys.I'm after some kind of market research if you would take two seconds to answer. I'm building a bunch of objects from full pre fab homes, to the furniture to decorate them.

I have local lighting switched off in my preferences, it seems to lag me out something chronic. Anyways,most the items i build have 'Full Bright' switched on so they look just as nice at night as during the day. Is this a bad thing?

Thanks to all that post. It will help me make items people use rather than keep in thier pocket. :)

I have never used local lighting because I have been told by several people that it is very laggy and well, I really don't need any of that hehe.\

I do however love the full bright feature and have had no issues from that. The first time I turned full bright on something I was amazed and I ran around to everything at my homes and turned it on everything I possibly could :) I love this feature!

P.S. You may want to re-word your poll question because it kinda doesn't make sense.
Local lighting on or off
yes or no

not sure what question we are answering hehe

Full bright in general is not a bad thing, but if overused, it can easily make everything horribly ugly.

If you turn full bright on for everything there will be no shading at all. Not even the subtle shading that you get during the daytime. It looks "just as good at night" because it never really looks very good at all.

I have higher standards than your average user, however.

Outside of SL, I deal with both traditional and digital painting, and lighting seems to be a major component of my style. I've also done extensive work with 3d graphics and FPS mapping.

For all these reasons, I usually run with Local Lighting turned on.

I think the forum moderator may be able to delete the post, enabling you to submit a post with proper wording in the poll, or maybe the moderator can change the poll wording to properly reflect your intent upon being asked.

I don't have local lighting turned on very often, it slows things down and lord knows they are slow enough as it is, and there are so many examples of bad use of the local lighting they outweigh the good uses.

Hopefully people will realise what i meant. For those that don't:

Local Lighting On Or Off?

Yes = ON

No = OFF

Sorry for my poor grammar.

Thanks for the replies so far guys,seems a possible solution would be for me to offer two versions of each produce i build. One with Full Bright ON,another with it switched OFF(unless specifically wanting it to be a light emmiting object).

I much prefer to have it on because it really makes the world look better, but I've recently started keeping it off because I get much better framerate without it.

Prior to 1.7 I had it on all the time and had fps > 21 on a routine basis.

Post 1.7, same machine no other preference changes, I get sub-11 FPS rates in the same areas with local lighting on.

Consequently, I rarely have local lighting on any more - especially since many of those sub-11 FPS rates are actually sub-5 or even sub-2. Even dropping my draw distance to 64 doesn't seem to have a noticeable improvement usually.

Too bad - I loved local lighting before.

That quote is the truth and good advice.

Fullbright is cool and it has it's places but to use it on every surface would make your stuff look ridiculous. If you want your stuff to look lit and look cool, you could make textures with burnt in lighting effects.
