Harassment.. what would you do?

Yes, I know it's the last day of the forums and some are running wild and having fun. But I have a serious question....

I have a few individuals who "have it out for me". They are childish people who have been harassing me and my friends off and on for about a year now.

The latest is they bought up the land around my main store and built their own store there with HUGE signs looming over mine. They spend their time in their shop, since they are banned from my land, shouting insults about me and my store into open chat.
They are harassing me, my customers and my friends. They are bombing my store and blowing the people there away.

They even called a Linden in to complain last night about MY sign that was on the border of their land. They wanted her to suspend or ban me. The sign was on my side of the line, but at the Linden's request, I scooted it back further onto my property.


I also have an alt who is not know to many, keep it that way so I can hide and just kick back and relax. They discovered who she is and are now stalking my alt as well harassing her.

All I'm being told to do is rerport them.... yet I do and it all still continues... does anyone have any advice? I almost dont want to log in anymore, since all I deal with is their BS.

When they begin yelling or whatever, how do you respond?

Pick up shop and move. AR every event as it happens, have your customers AR as well.

is punching them in the face an option? if not, pick a random Linden and IM them and tell them, or have them come "observe" it.

Aw, well if reporting doesn't work you might want to consider moving your store somewhere else? Sorry, only thing I know x_X

Dont want to move.. already did that once and had customers complain about having to refind me

Moving probably isn't an easy option, as her store is well established. They'd probably just follow. She'd have to change the name of it, too, which would hurt business.

But anyway, Kalley, when they start harassing, what do you do? How do you respond to it?

My steps on harrasment of any form of griefing!

1.) Abuse report.
2.) Mute
3.) Have friends abuse report.
4.) if their on my land i boot them and ban.
5.) wait a month if their still here abuse report them again.

Definately resist the temptation to retaliate in world - nothing good can come of it, and you're only sinking to their level.

File an abuse report on each individual harrassment occurance. You may not see immediate or visible results from Linden... but you are documenting a history. Sooner or later they'll completely cross the line, and your history (of AR's) will back you up. So don't give up!

Lastly - bring it to one of the 3rd party forums & explain your situation in detail if it makes you feel better.

Normaly when they start their BS, I ignore them. I have ignored them and had a chat in open chat with friends and customers about the ignorance of greifers.

Last night I also sent out a notice in my stores update group telling all that I appoligize for the griefers that have been attacking the store, and that I have spoken with a Linden and she said to make sure that we all report them anytime they act out.

People like that thrive on attention, of course. I wonder if the griefer(s) is an alt of someone who's in your group?

It's like dealing with a screaming 2-year-old, often. Sometimes the only thing you can do is just let them rage until they realize they're going to get nothing from it, and only then do they stop.

Still, sucks for you Just don't feed the monster.

Tell whichever Linden it was that requested you to move your sign to get bent. You pay for that land.

Put the sign back where it was.

Sounds like these people have no lives. Keep filing abuse report after abuse report after abuse report for every incident. Keep the abuse report number on a notecard that way you have a nice long list. Hand that nice long list to the Lindens on line if they don't respond to it.

And if you really want to go all out, start letting them know that there are federal internet harassment laws. That usually scares them.

well.. thank you all for your advice.. but I'm at the point where I'm about to just give in.. close up shop and say goodbye to SL.

Why am I paying as much as I am if what I work to build can be knocked down by harassers? I hate logging in now, I hate being there... all because of some people who wont go away and leave me alone.

Aw no... I'm so sorry to hear about this. I'm not experienced at dealing with harassers or griefers, so I can only agree with those saying keep filing ARs.

Also, would it be possible to TP a Linden to you so they can see what's going on? And maybe show them that picture you just posted, too?

I am sure the lindens are quite aware of what they are doing to you but they need an actual violation to take action. If they are ARing you constantly and your not doing anything and co-operating when you talk to a linden then your fine. Put them on ignore and mute and you wont be able to hear them.

Other than that your only option is put the land up for sale and move though I would hate to give into assholes like that it may be your only option.

It's harassment like that which drives people to own, or rent in, private sims.

Theyll be back, once your shop is established somewhere its not the best idea to just move; is she going to have to keep moving?




Sucky situation, one of my residents was harrassed hard core like this, LL didnt do anything.

I guess just something you gotta deal with; those people definitely need a new hobby.

Although, I thought we had some new updated thing where you can not hear what people whom you have banned are saying?

Go and rent a commercial space on a private estate and have the estate owner ban the whole crew.

Hack the SL database and get their RL info. Then go to their house and scold them.

If you give all of that up, they win. Wouldn't it be better to just move? I know it is a pain and you shouldn't have to do it, but when you have lousy neighbors its often easier to just move then to try and change the ass's behavior.

Hey Kalley, dont do that, you have a good product, but maybe this person was dissatisfied in some way. Id contact your harrasser and just ask them what their problem is, and keep a log. Maybe you can work it out on your own, maybe not, have run into some real nut cases in SL myself. But at least you will have the documentation you need to show LL that you did try to resolve the problem on your own.

If you are in a situation, call a live helper in, to view the problem as its occurring. You have every rite to put on your land what you want to, your paying the bill for it, not your harraser.

I have a had a bit of luck with this, as i abuse report, i IM that individual that i have done so, and will continue to do so untill they are stopped or banned. Dont stand down, be firm and continue to do what you need to do to keep your business alive and viable

They need to be banned in every way possible....IP, e-mail addresses, payment info....so that it makes it really hard for them to try to get back into SL.

There should be a no tolerance policy for this. LL needs to start enforcing penalties so people think twice about harassing other people and hopefully decide their SL accounts are more valuable to them.

Thank you to all of you who know who the harassers are and have offered to boot them from your malls, some of you even offering to give me their spots. But, no thank you... doing that would make me no better then they are. I refuse to act out like that, but do appreciate the offer from a lot of you.

With all the people in SL who are out to hurt others... it's nice to know that there are still a lot of good people left in SL.
