I think that shutting down parts of the forums are an acceptable (though not great) idea, but I really think that the Classifieds should stay.

Classifieds are closed, so there are no responses, but I use them all the time when looking for new stuff to buy. I don't see why they just can't keep them online, since they are not completely shutting down the forums.

Thoughts?

Well now they've announced it and everyone's started forums of their own and emigrated from these forums, They may as well shut it down...

But yeah, Land sales/property forums and Employment Op's should stay-They're a base for finding renters, buyers, sellers and Jobs/Employees.

OK we don't really need the classifieds, but what we do need is the linden and resident conversation forums.

Totally agree :) I've been yelling at the Lindens in email with basically what you're saying :)

OK we don't really need the classifieds, but what we do need is the linden and resident conversation forums.

The reason we need them is that it is the only free avenue of advertising within any of LL's properties. You have to pay for classifieds and while they do show up on the website, they seem to be sorted by price - so anyone who might have paid a small price would be on page 2000, or near there.

I am at the point of saying maybe the Linden powers that be can compromise. Close the Sandbox and general non SL related sections (takes care of the moderating nightmare Torley and others have to go through) but leave us the SL stuff.

If indeed they can take the criticism (though they admit it does sting some) then that would be the end of what they consider the problem.

Leave the other stuff to the 3rd parties... the "platform" is big enough to sustain it's own central area for the related stuff though.

Not an original suggestion I know.. but it is where I am at today. :)

I agree.. Not like they ever listen to us, but I'd hope that the classifieds and content creator forums would stay.

The new products section is where a lot of us get information about new items. I think most of it has been crap lately, but thats a different discussion. The IW classified system is one most can't browse at work, search well, or marked what you've already looked at. The forum ones are shown in a fair way where everyone will get seen, unlike the IW pile of poo.

I don't know what the other sections are like, but the animation section is the same few questions asked over and over and over and over. Obviously they aren't finding the answers anywhere else, not even the big red sticky. While it is rather annoying, it still is a good place to discuss the constant increase of bugs with animations. Now, if I upload and an animation and SL turned it into shit, I can come here and see if others have had the same problem. If they close that down, I'll have to hunt down other animators. I've been around for a while so I know who to bother, but many people can't or don't feel comfortable asking IW.

Most of the time when a question comes up in Live Help about something content creation related that is easier answered in the forums, most will direct them here. What will I do with scripting questions now at 4am SLT (midday my time) when I couldn't script myself out of a box?

I'm going to miss the classifieds section. It was a great way to get out the news on new product. Now how is that going to be possible??
