At about 309 Lindens to the U.S. dollar, that's more than $32,000. Bragg, however, says he has managed to find ways to withdraw some of the money in his online account.
Seems like he must have been doing this for a while!

I can't wait to see where this goes. My hunch is that he'll be eaten alive in court. But aside from that, it's interesting because it IS the first case like this ever. I think.

I am just wondering if LL is going to try to launch a countersuit for breach of contract (or something to that effect) for the effort to bypass the land sale system. This case is really going to be interesting to watch. Does a LL tenant actually own their stuff or is it simply a rental of services from LL. The article seems to say the latter, but my impression from LL has always been that you do own the "property". That could have a big impact in the case as it could make it possible to make LL return the property or its cash value.

http://wired.com/news/culture/0,70909-0.html?tw=wn_index_1 Bragg copied the URL for a legitimate auction, then swapped in the ID number for land not yet up for sale publicly, so there would be no minimum bid and few, if any, competing bidders. Few, if any, competing bidders? Were there any other participants in these auctions? _____________________

Yes, too bad it will get thrown out of court once LL explains how he subverted the system in his quest for money. That's the story, IMO, not that it has anything to do with virtual property. _____________________

Yeah, a couple other people were doing it also. Were there repercussions for them as well? _____________________

however, says he has managed to find ways to withdraw some of the money in his online account Presumably an account (an alt or a friends) that has modifiy rights to his objects into which they've put a simple llGiveMOney() script. Then that account cashes out. |

Bragg says they froze his account, which prevented him from drawing one million "LINDENS." Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't one million lindens at $L309/$1 equal out to about $3,000 or so dollars, not $32,000 as indicated by the article. Yuk, I don't like math so If my math is wrong don't be mean to me k ![]() Covered in posts #2 & 3 of this thread. _____________________

You can't get runtime permissions from an avatar that is offline. This would have had to be setup beforehand. That kills any chance of him using "I didn't know" - because why else would you set up a backdoor way of getting hold of your cash in case you got caught? What a lowlife. I hope he loses his license as a lawyer as well as the case. Lewis _____________________

Sorry to go off topic, but the screen shots of SL in the article really show the place off. The pic with the shadows of palms and the pool reflecting the sun look fantastic.

There was a case about some guy that lost a 'magic weapon' in another "game", I think. That case went to trial in Japan, I believe, and the guy got his weapon back. It was on the BBC news site. _____________________
