Write about what people do when they take SL way too far

Dreaming that you were a woman in a hospital, your baby was kicking and it was coming out...

You pushed and pushed until you saw its head...You pushed even more but then a mysterious thing happened! Everything jsut went black...

You think to your self

It was like you were on to something, then stopped half way and took a turn for the crazy.

its easy to mock, and really for that reason - it isn't worth doing. Sure, some people will internalize what happens here in a context that some will deem 'too far'. However, how many people have rich 'inner lives' that we don't even consider odd?

if I'm some guy, sitting at a coffee shop, and all I do in my freetime is make up stories in my head, write some of them down, and sip a latte, is that so bad? Who cares if creativity is focused internally, or externally in-world?

"Get a life" is a common put-down, but really, if you need to say it - are you so sure *you* don't need to follow your own advice?

Perhaps I have too much empathy, but I don't think ridiculing people is the way to expend energy here.

I haven't dreamed about SL.

I have had things happen in SL that remind me of some of the dreams I've had when I've been deep-hacking real-time code. I've had occasional nightmares about messing up the "software" controlling my body (complete with dreamed code) now and then, but it took SL to make it really happen!

I have really screwy stage-one dreams that usually involve what I was working before I fell asleep, and if if involved a screwy asset server.... I'll dream that I'm losing body parts like a leper in a giant blender.

That's rare, tho.

I know when I'm in a good scripting 'groove' is when I go to bed and write passages of code in my dreams. On occasion I'll wake up and have a particularly annoying scripting issue resolved!

Claps and buys you another latte :)

ps: I used to dream a lot of really wild things and build them in SL. Now I just dream a lot of really wild things :)

I recall one time when there was a dead possum floating in the apartment complex swimming pool. As I walked past it I thought about the workers who had the task of removing it and thought, "Oh god, I'm sure glad I don't have to click on that!"

When you think of touching things in the real world as clicking on them it's time to take an break from the computer.

I had a dream about SL one night-

In it I was visiting the doctor. He turned to me and said, 'You know...you would feel alot better if you just turned your AO off.'

My family and I had a good laugh about that one in the morning and agreed that I would probably feel better if I didn't stay up so late at night playing SL!

When I was cutting plywood to put over the windows when Rita was coming through, I really wanted to click create, cube, click on window, control-shift-stretch to cover it... DONE! I mean, I wouldn't even have to edit the texture!

*chuckles* My mate and friends have started learning to ignore me when I see something interesting in RL and immediately blurt out ... "I wonder how many prims that would be?"

That happens to me.

On another note, I love it when bad threads turn good. LOL!

The most successful software company in the world does a piss-poor job on all these points. Particularly the first three. Why do you expect Linden Labs to do any better?
Yes, it's true, I have a blog now!

Heh. My kids are well used to me waxing rhapsodic about traffic light control systems and algorithms for bird flight and the like.

"Oh, just mouseover it."
"Huh?"
