My first SL post!

Is there any way to stop SL from timing out? Often times I'm AFK and I keep getting booted.

An application running on your PC such as "Anti-Idle" is about the only way to defeat the Away timeout.

That - or Jam a Quarter in your page down key when you step away :D

Try them out. You can have them move your mouse every "X" seconds to avoid getting logged out. People use to use it to help their dwell, even though it really didn't, and several clubs still use them just to have the attraction of a bunch of AFK green dots on the map - heh.

I used it to gather avatar name/key pairs at the welcome area for my gift giving database, but gave it up with the new 4-sim set up.

Regards,

Heh, I remember back when the idle logout was broken. I woke up after eight or so hours of idle with a primwang strategically positioned at the front of my (attached) siegeBot.

Careful what you wish for!

you could use a program to send occasional keypresses in to SL... chat text or something.

I can understand the timeout feature. Why should LL spend bandwidth sending data to a client that is not using the system? But if you're constantly getting bumped when you're away just a "little bit" too long, that's an issue.

I have attached a little program called "Keep Alive".

Put any text in the text box and check the little box called "Active". It will send that chat text to the SL window once a minute. Use this to trigger an AFK gesture, or you could put "/1 yada yada" in the text box and the text would be hidden from other users.

Use an old worn out mouse that can't keep the cursor still even when the mouse isn't moving. :)

(I know someone who has one of these, hehe).

I hope not. Cat's love computers. Let them play. I would go with duct tape though.

I never get logged out if I am in a dance animation that loops. *shrug*

PenPen, in the almost 2 years I've known you, I've NEVER known you to be AFK except for the 60 seconds it takes you to mix a drink!

Whats the point of this "feature" given it doesn't help your dwell (as if your just there for 5 minutes and then don't come back on its the same as if you're there all day), and that its so easily gotten around with programs? I know I've gone to answer the phone or door and been logged out, its just annoying..

It saves bandwidth by reducing the number of computers that are connected to the grid when the user is not at the controls. Those computers still use resources, even when the user is not actively doing anything.

Having said that... it would be nice to have a "re-connect" button so that we don't have to quit the app to re-connect!!!

Hell yes, but I'd rather they spent their time on other stuff first. Like... a llSetAnimationPoint(vector pos_offset, rotation rot_offset) I could put in my Animation Overrider so my smaller-than-average character wouldn't end up sitting half-embedded in the ground when I use animations built for statuesque 2.1 meter "ideal avs".
