Wait. No age check? WTF. Seriously. I know you want people, and you're letting us register alt after alt after alt, to inflate numbers, but really....

What is the point of the two seperate grids anymore?

Can't keep kids off of main grid, can't keep adults off of teen grid...

Makes it easier to find the prey you're looking for if it's all grouped together :D

Heh, true. But now, just like the "adult" in the bdsm club could be a kinky 15 year-old, that choice young prey on the teen grid could be a 45 year-old guy in drag. :D

Oh let me ask you this thing: How many of you think that Teenagers dont have cell phones with SMS, or access to a Credit Card?? What Age check was there before?

True. But it's more sensible than just letting people sign up willy nilly. Or using the same damn signup form for the TG.

More than there was before. Look, it's pretty simple, adults balked at the idea of giving LL their credit card info, real names and phone numbers. I think the disincentive was even stronger for kids, especially given their spending habits, it would only be a matter of time before they started buying lindens for that cute outfit (or big gun) with that card already there, just waiting to be used. Then your parents find out...

It was a hurdle, it made them think about it. It gave LL at least the appearance of being serious about enforcement, and that too was a disincentive. Now, it's a joke, anyone can get in, and given recent events inworld, it's obvious kids view the new registration system differently or they wouldn't be making their presence felt as they have. I'm not blaming all the greifing and troubles on kids, that isn't fair or correct, most are probably adults who are jerks. But, still. It's an open door policy, now. Even if a kid is caught and banned they can come right back, no problem.

Here's a silly prediction. One year from now there will be the Great Second Life Irony. In June 2007 90% of the teen grid will be filled with adults and 90% of the main grid will be filled with teens. :p

If we had a good way of finding out if it were true or not, I'd bet you a dollar.

There was a story last week on the BBC about a six year old girl who got repetitive strain injury from texting on her cell phone too much. No one interviewed suggested that it was odd that a six year old would have her own cell phone or be able to send unsupervised SMS messages.

Her mother solved the problem by telling the girl to restrict her texting to only a couple of hours a day after school. The girl said she would. :)

Due of the new policy at registering for a teen account, my 14 year old won't be coming to the teen grid. I'm debating on the 16 year old remaining there. We were reassured that everything would be done to keep adults off the teen grid. Lifting the CC information isn't making the grid more secure.

Just tell your kids to keep away from online predators.
And that if they see a semi-invisible creature mimicing their voices, grab the biggest gun you can find and start blasting.

While I take your point that the age check before was far from foolproof before, it certainly seems to have been a barrier for some teens. Just look at how many people have experienced a notable increase in contact with (self-admitted) teens on the Main Grid since the registration changes.

Also contributing to this, I think, is the fact that there's no real penalty for teens found to be on the Main Grid. They end up getting moved to the Teen Grid where they'd already have been, had they not fudged the birthdate. Where's the detterent in that? Why not give it a shot, if you're a teenager who wants on the Main Grid? You've got nothing to lose, except whatever's in your inventory.

I can't understand why they aren't permanently banned in the same way that adults discovered on the Teen Grid are.
