seriosly.. has the level of detail been culled on objects or is my graphics card crapping out?
case in point.. my prim shoes from barnsworth.. lovely clean build .. but now they look all square and polygony unless I have the camera focused on them and zoomed in..
am I alone in this?

You are not alone. I was doing some product shots today, and had to remove the shoes I'd been wearing because when I wasn't zoomed in on them, you could see the feet poking through, even though the fit was perfect. Yesterday I could see just about everyone's scalp through their hair. Thursday at a wedding, I scrapped several photographs because things were so messed up. AV faces were actually just flat triangles, and for a while the groom was a pair of floating sunglasses and a lapel flower. While it gave me a chuckle, it wasn't exactly an image I wanted to preserve from a wedding.

LL is aware of the problem already. There was another thread that documented the LoD issue.
