Linden Promoting Resident Business?

So there I am looking through the event listings like I do when I first log on for the day. I run across the same event posted at 9am, 1pm, 3pm and 6pm. Nothing to unusal about that, many people are using the event listing these days to advertise for whatever.

What struck me about this particular event is that it was posted by Pathfinder Linden FOR someone else. Now normally this would't really bother me especially since it is for something as harmless and civic minded as a "tour." But the last line states that it while it is free now it won't be for long.

So my question is, isn't it like kinda weird for Linden's to be promoting resident businesses in such a way? Discuss.

John Rollins' SL Tours

Date: Tuesday, November 15, 2005 Time: 1:00PM - 1:10PM (10 minutes) Location: Swain (32,32) Host: Pathfinder Linden Category: Miscellaneous Cover Charge? No
(Event Posted for John Rollins)

Looking for some exciting places to visit in Second Life? Come alone or bring friends to Swain 32,32 and take a notecard from the red ball in the white building. You're welcome to keep the notecard and visit the sites at your leisure, but it is recommended that you organize into groups and visit the places you want to see together - it's more fun that way! By the way, the tours are free this week, but that deal won't last long! (Host: John Rollins)

I recognize the Rollins name as being associated with an educational group taking a class this term which falls under Pathfinder's areas of responsibilitues.

Maybe they mean that the tour won't be here long. And not the free part.

No, this is normal for Linden Lab to find projects or people they like and then use LL powers or influence to further their business or personal interests. Some people call it FIC. Even though LL has policies along these lines, they are ignored from time to time. They are humans, and want the SL world to evolve the way they want just like the rest of us. :)

John Rollins is a student in the Campus:Second Life program. Students are allowed to hold events on their group land, but in this case there was a glitch that wasn't allowing any of the students in his class to post any events.

Since part of their course is to hold events on their land, I simply posted the events for John since he was technically unable to do so.

I made it clear in the event description that the event is hosted by John and that I was simply posting it for him.

So in short....there was a glitch and a student who was facing a deadline for his course...so I stepped in and posted the events simply to help him.

That was very kind of you Pathfinder :)
I also applaud you for coming fourth and explaining a concern that some individuals may have had, even though you aren't obligated to do so...

Now... What's this FIC people speak of and how do I get in? lol
