I just wanted to send a shout-out to LL and all those in SL who are making it a hotbed of capitalistic activity.

The WSJ, NYT, and other publications are starting to take notice - as is the rest of the world.

LL should be decorated by the President as an emissary of the world for what capitalism can do when employed!

Yay LL and Yay Capitalism!!

2 things:

(1) Some people earn WAY more than that (look at Anshe)
(2) In some parts of the world, thats a damn good wage.

Meanwhile... back in LA, I can get 1 nail manicured. Maybe I'll get the SL hand airbrushed.

Yes, the latest update was truly a boon to the capitalists in SL. Just the type of commitment to excellence the current US administration is known for. Add a judicious amount of cronyism and you'll really make Bush proud. ;)

SL is a brand new technology. As time goes on more people will find a way to make money. People in SL don't have the same basic requirements as in the RW, no food, sleep or shelter is required. Many older players cash out but buy very little. In the RW business people add to the economy by consuming other's goods, not so in SL.

I think it would be cool to build in a system similar to Sims online, where the av requires some basic needs to be happy. This would allow for farming, to grow food, and allow another segment of entertainment. Going out for a movie and dinner. Grocery stores would buy from farmers. People would go shopping for foods that would make the av happy. Also, requiring sleep, bathing and using the tiolet would force people to either buy a home or rent. One can only imagine the extent of growth could come from such needs. These things would create a more normal economy in my opinion.

But I'm sure it will not be popular when everything is so easy now.

Why create a SL that has all the inconviences of the FL? I mean we dont always have alot of time to play SL so why force us to spend part of that time doing meaningless and mundane things?

I'm thinking of ways to make SL more realistic as a market. When I try to think of a way to earn money, I think of needs people have. The problem with providing entertainment/unnessasary goods and services is those are he first thing to be cut during a low spot in the economy. Needs, such as rent/mortgage, food, transportation etc can be trimmed (use less or less expensive goods) but not ignored.

My idea would be to limit the inconvenieces, as SL is a fantacy world. We could allow our AV to sleep during the time we are off-line. We could teach our AV to feed itself during times we are away, or even teach it to bath, use the toilet etc during down time. But one would still be required to get the money to supply the needs. Maybe we could train our av to work for $L :)

So you are going to make money by developing a sewage system for SL once llPoo() is implemented?
