Yep, last week's databse hack made it onto the BBC news website here. I love the caption 'Many people try extreme sports in Second Life' under the photo of a young lady whizzing around on a skidoo. Of course the Beeb fails to list the hardcore extreme sports in SL such as Lag-Wrestling, Name-the-Alt, Camping and Lag-dancing. :p Add your favourite SL extreme sports in this thread before the forum closes!

I've been in a few rez-athons, and molasses walks. Then there is the super popular underground walk, and flying through tommorow. :)

Why is it that every time Second Life ends up in some news column they always have to explain what second life is in detail like their trying to post a ad? I meen get to the point... I think people wan't to know whats going on, not what they can do here...

From: someone

Second Life is an online world which, as its names implies, allows users to live out another existence. Members choose an avatar then use it to explore the Second Life world. Users can buy virtual land and build a home or take part in all kinds of pastimes they may never try in the real world. Many residents of Second Life throw parties and bands such as Duran Duran are starting to stage gigs in the world.

Second Life has gained a lot of publicity because real world firms have set up shop in the online world. Recently American Apparel has created digital copies of real stores to sell virtual clothes to Second Life members.

According to the Second Life webpage more than 286,000 Second Lifers have logged in to the game world in the last 60 days.

Probably because they haven't got a clue what SL actually is, so they just copy/paste something that kinda sounds like a description and put into the article.

My olympic SL sport is the Greyathon.

That's a standard journalistic practice; when you are writing about something which is not common knowledge, you always explain it for the benefit of those who are not familiar.

Go back and read newspaper articles about The Beatles from 1963-64 and you'll see them doing the same thing.

There's a Reuter's article on C|Net right now. I didn't know Duran Duran has given a concert already. And Wells Fargo is still in SL? Surprised to hear that. And is American Apparel finally selling {virtual versions of American Apparel's RL clothes}? I knew there were plans, but hadn't kept track to see if they've started.

Reuter's article

It's part of the secret masterplan to bring more furriez into SL ;)

Ok, so far we've got Lag-Wrestling, Name-the-Alt, Camping, Lag-dancing, rez-athons, molasses walks, underground walks, Crash-0-lympics, Greyathon... any more? there's got to be a few.

Oh, how could I ever forget t3h ub3r l337 h4x0r5 'grid-crash' contest?

BTW, Vares, you left out the ever-popular 'see-how-long-you-can-stay-in-Port Cos-as-a-furry-before-you're-ejected' event.
