Hi,

I'm new to Second Life. I just bought a box of costumes, and when I bought it, I ended up wearing some of them automatically. The problem is that now I look like a really ugly man (I used to have a nice-looking female avatar).

I took off all my clothes, and removed any objects that were attached to me, but I still look like a man. My inventory says I'm still wearing three costume items (hair, body, and skin), which are making me look like a man, but I can't find any way to take them off.

Please help. Thank you.

It sounds like a shape was included with the clothes and skin. You need to double click your original shape, that can be found in 'body parts' in your inventory, i think. Anyone?

OK I misread part of your post. If you have found the items in your inventory, then you just right click and select 'take off'. Alternatively, you can right click your avatar and select 'take off' there. Might be an idea to find your old clothes first tho :D

Welcome to SL. :)
First always be sure when you buy something that the wear clothing now button is not checked. That will save you wearing a whole box of stuff at once. Dont worry, it happens to us all.

As for the reason you still look that way. That set had what is called a shape and a skin. They dont come off with a simple change of clothes.

Look in your inventory and do a search for "first look" When you find that folder drag it on and you should be looking like you did at rez. Find a place like New Citizens Inc (Search under places in world) and there are female shapes there you can try out.

Once you get that look you want to keep it is always a good idea to "Save it" so if this kind of thing happens you can drag it back on and save yourself from running around looking like you dont wish to. :D

New Citizens Inc has great notecards there that show you how to do the things I suggest. It would do you good to drop by there.

Good luck and welcome. :)

Look through your inventory for all the files that are "shape." You will find them in clothing root folder and/or body parts root folder.

Right click and select "replace" to put it on.

What Hiro says, plus in the Library of your inventory are some basic shapes if this doesn't work. Done this myself at first! Always make sure when you buy something the 'wear clothing now' box is unticked. I don't know why this enabled as default!

Also due to game lag, your avie sometimes takes a few seconds to update.

Welcome to SL!

It changed your shape. Your shape is altered by going into "appearance" mode and using the sliders, right-click on yourself and you will see it come up in the pie menu.

Look in the Library folder, under clothing, you should see default body shapes there.

However, you may want to use this opportunity to learn how to make your shape the way YOU like it, by going into appearnace mode and fixing it. You will spend a lot of time there, anyway, trust me. :)

Hi everybody,

My avatar is back to normal again. I had to put on my "Female Shape and Outfit" from the Clothing folder, and that removed the costume body, hair, and skin.

Thanks very much for your help!

Glad to hear you're back to being you! Something you might want to do for the future is go into appearance, and after you've tweaked and are happy with your avi, save it as "Iselda's Best Body" -- or something similar. This will then be stored in your body parts folder and readily available in case of emergency. Also, if you think you might want to play around with other avatar forms (I, for example, don a tiny pink kitty or panda bear on occasion) you can put that best body in a folder with hair, an outfit, any accessories you normally wear for a quick return to the real you.

ok.. I really need to work up a class at NCI called "Welcome.. so now what?" I have had to tell soo many people about this.. Where did I go? Why am I a man? How do I open a box? Why is it on my head?

I might snag some of this thread as I work on an outline for the EXTREME Newbie class.. anyone have any other ideas on what to include in this class..

Security lines/orbs and YOU.

How do I know what is a house or a store and where I'm welcome and where I am not?

Where is everybody?

What am I supposed to do? Isn't this a game? How do I level?

How do I get money? (I think you do this already, though)

Why can't I build here but I can over there? How do I know?

What do I do if someone shoots at me or sends me into space? Can I shoot them back? Where do I get guns? :)

Detailed explaination of all the keyboard controls, shortcuts and UI.

I did this exact same thing when i was new, over at Yadni's junkyard, rite?? LOL i was soooooo freaked out, what ya do to get the rest of it off, is first hide, then look in your inventory for your original shape, hair and eyes, and click them to wear. You cant take off a shape, skin, eyes or anyother body part without replacing it, this is the only way.

Have fun in SL, everyday you'll learn more, i still do..theres no shame in learning :)
