Hello everyone! Ok I think this question is better asked here in General, but if I am wrong, I'm sure it will get moved lol Anyway - I have recently closed a store I owned in the PG sim of Poliahu. This leaves me with 32,000sq.m of land (over 7000 prim worth) empty. I do not want to sell this land yet, though I may in the future. It recently crossed my mind that it is time I finally gave back to the community that has supported my business for almost 2 years. But that still left me without and idea of exactly *what* to build that would benefit everyone. That leads me to my question to you all. What would you do with 32,000+ sq.m of PG land, with over 7000+ prim at your disposal? I'm open to ideas, any and all! What would YOU like to see? - Sam If you'd like to view the land - secondlife://Poliahu/180/180/32/

I would plant trees all over it and declare it a National Park.

From: Jamie Bergman Why did you close the biz? I closed that location for a few reasons. A partnership we struck with a friend in early 2006 resulted in Dominion relocating our main store and hub to the private island sim of Chaotica. Having more usable land there (and full 100m+ tereforming limits) made it allot easier for us to show our homes and products. This quickly became our main new hub and left our original Poliahu location lacking in updates and support. Due to the shape of the land, it was impossible to show any more then a few of our products easily. I recently decided it would be to our best benefit to direct ALL traffic to our biggest location on Chaotica. I opened the Poliahu land in early September 2004, and I wish to keep it in our group. Hence why I do not want to sell it. We have not shut down our business in the least, Dominion Custom Homes will be a part of Second Life for a long time. - Sam

Some ideas:
1. Create a park. 2. Create a low-rent residential community for newbies. 3. Create an amphitheatre area and let people hold educational events there. 4. Create a maze, mystery, or puzzle like Random Calliope's at the Crescent Moon Museum. 5. You know those sideshow game booth things at theme parks? Where you pay $20 and get to shoot plastic ducks or throw darts at balloons? I always thought some scripted games like that in SL would be fun. People could play for free, prizes could be donated from content creators. 6. Combine 1 and 3.

While this is a very wide-spectrum recomendation, I would suggest setting up on the location an area to help new users (especially basic accounts) learn how to earn L$ though businesses. I would supply some of the area to hosting things like SLX/SLB Boxes, with very low to free charges, and host group discussions with "business instructors", who would explain what to them has been the best way to design and build certain things.
Classes could be anything from basic building, to scripting, texture design, or even marketing.
I personally feel that a the need for a business-related school in Second Life has not been properly addressed (but I could always be wrong).
This is why I feel that this idea helps the community as a whole: When more users are learning to create things, eventually they will spark their own ideas, this will cause older users to want to purchase their products, thereby increasing the transaction rate of the Linden Dollar, and ultimately raising its value.
For the person running the land, I really dont see where you would stand to gain anything out of this, from a financial point of view. However, you would gain the respect of the community and benefit yourself by knowing that you are helping to make a difference in the future of Second Life.

Great offer! What if volunteers were allowed to create builds and activities that supported various http://www.globalgiving.com projects?

I think you're right, however, have you taken a look at the events calandar lately? There are a number of great places that teach and guide and provide for new AV's. Alaska beat me to it, but when I read UR post I was thinking a Maze............... Get a skilled builder in there to make a fun maze........ There are a number of great ideas, but that was my first thought
