I think it's 5, but you might want to post this question in the Second Life Answers section (or whatever it's called these days).

Its 2 accounts per credit card, 5 accounts per household. Or so I am told by LL.

Can you use pre-paid credit cards to get around that rule? Not being devious, I swear. Just, you know, wonderin.

Well judging by the latest announcement it doesn't matter anymore.

I don't see how they plan to keep griefers out though.

And just as a side-note... Canceled accounts DO count against this limit. So you can't cancel an old alt you weren't using to "open up a slot" for a new alt. This may be different from previous alt regulations, but I ran into this limit personally a few months ago.

Not for free accounts. I read that announcement that Eata was referring to. You can have unlimitted free accounts now because they aren't using a credit card.

So are you saying that if I have an old cancelled alt on a credit card, it never "goes away"? Why have you cancel, then, if you have basic? So premium members can only have one alt, ever, even after they cancel it, but free accounts can have 20? That doesn't make sense, to say the least.

To rephrase my question, since it sounds convoluted:

Why would they limit the amount of accounts that are paying them money from a single credit card and encourage unlimited free accounts, instead?

They don't want our money, just our drain on their system? Huh?

Why do they care how many premium accounts someone has on a single card, if they are getting paid for them?

Even if the 2-per-credit-card limit no longer applies to Basic accounts, the 5-per-household limit still will. And unless I was misinformed by Lee (Linden) or the rules have changed, canceled accounts will still apply to the 5-per-household limit.

I was under the impression you wouldn't have to have a credit card now to apply for the basic, but I probably misunderstood?

Apparently not-- I tried to make a free account and got a message that I couldn't, because I was already at my limit. It never even got to the point of asking for any account info, just getting my RL name was enough to exempt me from being able to continue. Grrr. Not that I need another alt, but it would have been fun to have one with a totally silly name.

So, ok, lemme get this straight, heh.

You can only have five accounts, or four alts, per household. Credit card or no credit card, Premium or Basic? Does this new policy exempt those who registered with a credit card from being limited to one alt? Meaning, now I can have four alts, instead of the one I was limited to with the credit card? Or does this really mean nothing except you no longer need a card to register, and the same rules apply? What is to stop someone from registering under different names? Although I guess they could have done that before.

Sorry for sounding confuseth.
