What if Second Life, through sheer accident, complacency of others, and other equally offbeat factors becomes THE de-facto Metaverse? Where will you stand, having been an 'early adopter', on 12 June 2016? - Will you be rich, having established a niche like 'nice trees' known to millions? - Will you be crushed, your business flattened by some innovation? - Will you have insight that few people have, perhaps little gems such as 'the $L will slide forever', or 'there will always be grid attacks'? - Will you have rare, precious items that are practically freebies now, worth a fortune in REAL cash later? - Will you be globally famous, a celebrity loved by hundreds of millions? - Will you be just struggling along, little having changed? - Will you still be having fun? Think about where you were in 1996, for some perspective Lastly: I'm thinking of burying a Time Capsule prim under the telehub of the original Caledon sim, to be opened on some date in 2016. Granted, we may never get that far, but just in case... What should I put in it?

From: Desmond Shang What should I put in it? I have some suggestions about who you could put in it.

Images of what the grid used to look like before they started stealthing in changes.
At least one fully scripted non-flexiprim 'long dong.'
A jointed pair of torii.. or anything that is jointed at this point and the joint is working.
Those are the things that fall under "extinct or endangered species now."

I'm pretty sure I'll be drinking the same kind of vodka.
Oh, and logging in once a day.

I'll be the drunk on the side of the road in Boardman, complaining about all the new features and telling people it was better in the old days, when the building bugs were rampant because it made us work harder. You'll find Barnesworth on the park bench, muttering into his drool cup about how pretty he is.

In the time capsule you must put in a fresh prim - 0.5*0.5*0.5 and in its original texture.
I am sure someone a day will be a bit to creative and remake it..

I'll own most of the grid in some form or another, even if my name's no on any of it. My secret societies will have people planted in the core of LindenLab, and the next VW. We'll still be using the FIC as a shiny dangly thing to distract unwitting residents from the truth.

You'd be bought out by second and third generation corporates, and largely forgotten. Some of you might be somewhat well-off. Several of you would be among those corporates, largely by luck, or because you had the sort of instincts Bill Gates had in the late seventies and early eighties - before he learned to take showers and dress better. Think Wozniak or Kildall, among others.

I expect that the physics engine will finally break me around 2009, so from then on you'll find me in a corner in the Caledon Asylum, rocking back and forth and muttering "havok 2... havok 2..."

Where will I be?
In my mansion in Beverly Hills, of course, being fed wine and grapes by my menservants while I peruse the Wall Street Journal for potential acquisitions for BergmanWorldCorp.

I call dibs on the top bunk. As for something to put in the time capsule, besides an example of the "most bizaare application of steam power in a personal grooming device" I would suggest that we also make it the "tomb of the unknown pose ball" by including some particularly misbegotten and curiously scripted PB selected at random from amongst the scrapings of various yard sales. Or we could just clean out the junk from all our inventories and cram it in there.
