I'm a bit tired, so forgive any typos and cloudy sentences. Was reading the forums before bed and had an idea that -may- work.
We can't post names on the forums. Agaisnt the ToS and such. So people who do unsavory practices continue to get away with it (this idea is comming from the thread about copying items with a script and then selling them as thier own).
Could the more well known vendors set up a group to send out lists of such people to those in the group? More like shutting the door after the cows get out, but is something. It might not do much, but if a person gets on this private "blacklist" life in SL would be a major pain not being able to buy anything anywhere.
Downside is someone (or a group of someones) would have to look at each new vendor/buisness requesting to join the group (couldn't be an open group for obvious reasons) to make sure it's a valid buisness.
But if it could be run, then all would know who is doing these things. Possibly leading to land-banning certain persons from all buisness lands. The Voting option could be used to ensure all members see the new names added and group mailings could be done via notecards on a periodic basis.
I hope that makes enough sense for those who are involved (ie the buisness owners) to understand. Hopefully those who are more awake than me can either clean up that idea and use it, or trash it where it belongs for reasons I can't see right now. Heh.
Night all.

Blacklists are never a good idea. Waaaaaaay too much potential for abuse.

My idea about the IP issue
05-23-2006 21:32
was to take snapshots of my finished products and then email them to my @Yahoo email address. This is a variation on the "notebooking" method used by inventors to document a product before the patent is applied for/approved. Its even better, because the email is documented using an impartial 3rd party - and absolutely unalterable by myself. I'm thinking of it as time stamping my virtual inventions. Not airtight, admittedly. Couldn't hurt in a legal dispute, though. What is the real-world legal precedent for this kind of thing as it applies to SL? There are so many laws regarding IP, I would think there would be a lawyer somewhere who would be game for a high stakes (and potentially highly publicized) SL IP case. (slipcase - lol) They might even do it on contingency. I figure the person who gets on SL to piss people off may not be using their own contact and banking info. It seems like a safe assumption to believe that the person who would be making a large profit off of a stolen idea, would be. Then again, you know what they say about assuming!
