I didn't even bother to try and log into sl yesterday. While I looked forward to sl halloween, it had come to a point where logging in and trying to *play* is futile and I get bored easily. I only joined sl on the 18th and initially was thrilled with it. I stuck it out through the update and tried to use sl every day since until yesterday and am so glad I didn't jump to upgrade to premuim!!. So until sl works out all it's bugs and such and I can play as I did when I first signed up prior to update, I am looking to try another platform that is simlar in nature. So please offer me some suggestions and opinions of other platforms you have tried. Don't bother suggestion TSO, I got bored with that the 4th day into my free trial and don't understand the attraction to that one. Who wants to worry about skilling, peeing, eating and sleeping?(and so on), not me. So lets hear it. I need something to fill my down time because I am not going to spend it checking sl every day. TIA!

There is nothing else quite like SL. My suggestion, stick it out for a day or two and things wil be fixed. There's even an update today that might solve your problems.

No skilling in secondlife. Truely alot of fun and lots to learn rolled up into one.

Ive tryed nearly every program like second life and even though second life does lag abit nothing can compare to it, programs like virtual worlds is so boring, and the others just dont have the same fun factor, i really hope they fix the lag cause second life is amazing.

Anyone know if todays update has fixed the lag?

We won't really know until tomorrow. It will take all day for the back-end rolling update to be distributed, then most of the day will be wasted with the grid settling down again.

I do not doubt that they will handle the lag eventually, but I get the feeling it's going to take a while. Today's patch will no doubt help, but I also don't think it will completely fix it either.

Oop - sorry!

"The grid" is a generic way of referring to the entire world (and the infrastructure that supports it) of SL.

SL hasn't always been this laggy and slow. I'm convinced it'll get sorted out eventually. You could sit tight foir a while or try something like THERE, which is apparently pretty so so or Active Worlds which has been compared to a prototype to SL.

Personally, I'd wait it out.

Try playing first life for a while. I hear the content isn't as compelling, but there's not so much lag. By the time you're bored with it (I'd give you a week or so), SL will probably be back up to snuff...

SL is fantastic for what it is, not a game per say. If your looking for a game I suggest World of Warcraft I'm so addicted now lol. I "play?" or um "venture" into both

Yes...don't give up on SL yet. All the updates also bring issues(however this is the worst for me) but it WILL get sorted out, and SL is definately the place to be. Tons to do.

After the 1.7 update I DID try WoW w/ my hubby and he was thrilled that I showed interest but it's not gonna get me hooked like it has the other four members of my family.

No it hasn't, you're right. However, I do feel that it's got increasingly laggy and slow, certainly in the 18 months plus I've been here. That makes me wonder how and when it will get sorted out, as apart from temporary spikes of improvement, the overall trend has been towards it getting worse.

Of course I'm going to wait it out, but I don't hold out much hope in seeing a rapid improvement in lag and the overall "sticky" feel I get from using SL now. I have a horrible feeling it will keep on getting worse before it gets any better.

Is this thread likely to ferret out some little known other place which offers SL's options and a bag of chips, too? Or is it serving as a reminder that there isn't any other place, unless you want games, which do indeed do gaming better.
