Hi.. my name is Lacy217 and I own the Tartan Shop where I make flex kilts and scottish accesories and custom clothes.
I guess I would just like to sound off or warn other vendors about a very unreasonable customer who came in the shop today. He bought a kilt outfit from me a few days ago and came back today to complain that the 50+ prim kilt with all individual pleats did not fit his body exactly as he thought it should. I tried to explain that many prim items have to be adjusted because there are so many body sizes and shapes in second life and that I would help him do it as I do for many customers.
The kilt adjustment he needed was very minor , but he insisted he would do it him self.
I would also like to say that he barged in uninvited to my private workshop which is behind a black wall and has no signs . So i am not sure how he knew it was there. But once in side walked all around and took pictures of items in the workshop that are not for public release yet. I did not appreciate this.
Anyway he said he would do the kilt him self and teleported out to another area in the program and send me back another picture that was much worse. Only and idiot would make this kilt look this way after proper instruction.
Now he demands a refund and starts making threats: " I will run to the forums and report you and make trouble with the lindens."
Well excuse me. I told him his complaint was not valid and that the adjustment was minor. I spend many hours each day in my shop helping people and teaching them how to adjust prim clothes.
His automatic response of reporting to lindens gives me a big clue that this is a standard behavior pattern for this guy who probably tries this technique on many vendors .
I did refund his money, but I am a reputable vendor and work hard and make nice things. I do not appreciate threats or unreasonable complaints from people who just want to be pricks.
Anyway.... had to have my say.... Forutnately,. I have many many great customers and assholes like this are relatively rare.

might want to edit the guys name quickly, as it is linden labs policy to protect their business interests, err umm, the assholes of the game, umm, the privacy of others! (got it right finally!) yeah that's it.... I think...
anyway, threads like this get locked quickly when a name is mentioned, even though it is good for the community, apparently some don't think it is.
I'd post the names of griefers to watch out for I have run into, but I don't bother as my time posting it is wasted sadly.
Will you lose any sales if the guy took photos of stuff that he could copy easily you had made?

You can't name names here. Use forums.secondcitizen.com or one of the other third-party forums.

thanks for telling me about the names. I don't post here often so really was not aware.
Any item in second life can be copied or recreated and to my knowledge I have never seen this person before so why he wants pictures of my stuff i do not know, but it is possible that i could lose sales.
anyway thanks for the heads-up Lacy

If a customer has unreasonable expectations and is abusive and pushes their way into a private area, then no, they can kiss my capitalist booty.

well from my side it looks like someone inexperianced (they have to be or else they would have made it themselves) asked a honest question then after not being able to do it himself they walked into the shop , presumally behind the black wall (which any durh can probally see) to ask for said help and got the stufu
i dunno it jumps from customer walking in about a already extended help offer to storming off
ive been around this world for a little while ... and there a huge gap inbetween
"I did not appreciate this"
and
"teleported out to another area in the program"
i probally would get snotty too if i walked into a store trying to receive the help offer and got the "I did not appreciate this" crap that probally got said

i bet yer from Moove too..lol knew a Lacy there that made wonderful kilts and tartans, but anyway back to your problem..Since Mart and i moved to SL and started our business we find SL is very much like RL, only in SL they feel much more like being themselves. Rude and demanding customers at least weve found are few and far between, for the most part our customers and tenants are so nice. But when you do run into a nasty, unreasonable one, it just almost ruins your day. Had an expericence recently where not only did they want their money back, but a written apology..lol ( ok i gave them their money back, but they can kiss my ass on the apology, lol i dont think i did anything wrong, they just wanted a pound of flesh too)
Just like in real they threaten everything, going to the Lindens (they could care less), posting in the forums (you post your side and show entire SL how stupid the nincompoop is). If your doing the best to provide good product and good customer service, as your post shows, pffttttt on them..dont let it get to you.
Hugs good luck on your enterprise...sounds like you have a good thing going!

I didn't notice the stfu treatment you "know" must've happened, by just reading the description she gave. Do you know this customer, for you to get this insight on what happened? I sure got a whole other picture from what she was saying.

I don't run a buisness (prolly never will due to things like this) so I'd handle it a bit different at the last. For 'threats' to "go to the forums" and to "involve the Linden's" for actions that were clearly not the seller's falut, and when the seller tried to help that person; 1) Abuse Report of the 'threat' for harrassment. Might not do any good, but then again, if that customer has a long list of such reports, it just might. 2) Landban/Mute. That type of buisness you don't need. Nor any buisness from "friends" that may associate with persons like that. Sounds like you already have a nice customer base, no need to ruin it with idiots like that. 3) Suggestion here. Move your workshop up to about 500m and set a security orb inside. Set it to prevent anyone from comming near it. This not only protects your works in progress, but offers you a bit of piece as well. You can always find a "ring for service" object to place in your store if you were there to provide customer service to you customers. *tosses .02L$ on the table* ~Jessy

In any business you run yourself, you have to ask yourself, "Is the money of dealing with this particular idiot worth the agrivation that they're causing me?"
The customer is *not* always right, and in fact in some cases the customer is wrong, stupid and rude. Pretty much anyone who has done a customer service job knows this. Anyone who has worked any kind of technical support job has had their nose rubbed in this, (And I'd class a lot of stuff that sellers wind up having to do in SL as coming close to IT tech support. in many way.) but anyone who's stood in a check out line and watched the way that some people behave should be aware of it.
One of the benifits of doing busines in SL is that you are working for yourself, and that you therefore can tell the terminally rude that you simply don't need their business. Personally, I have the highest respect for creators in SL who while polite and considerate to the vast majority of their customers, are willing to stand up to the rare ones who are incapable of behaving in a civil and civilized fashion.

Lacy:
First off, count me among your satisfied customers. You work is lovely, and I get all kinds of compliments on my Kilt outfit (and I hand out landmarks to your shop!) You were very helpful to me in getting fitted properly. Best of all, my Lady loves the kilt outfit too!
Frankly, you were nicer to this guy than I would have been. Me, I'd have muted & banned him, and not given him a refund for: A - ignoring your offer of help, and mucking up the product. b- having violated your privacy by storming into your private workspace.
Customers like this jerk, you don't need.
P.S. - I have a little challenge for you - I'd like to get a kilt outfit that works with my Cat AV - it will need to accomodate my tail!
See you in world!

The customer is *not* always right, and in fact in some cases the customer is wrong, stupid and rude. I've heard it well phrased as "The customer is always right. However, there are some people you do not want as customers." I totally agree with this.

Sorry to hear about your bad time. We purchased kilts for our Men With Out Pants Party. Very good experince. She even set them to mod and transfer so we could fix them up. Plus gaves us plenty of cool stuff and a rightous deal on a set of bagpipes. If you the fool who caused this lady distress is reading this. Just one thing to say
A pox upon you and your lands.
