Quick question, and please forgive me if the answer should be obvious, but my research has not given me a clear answer. How does one get paid for service-oriented work in SL? For instance, if you set up a business as say a talent scout for a new SL comedy club and your fee to the club owner is L$5000, how does the fee for services get rendered? I of course understand that lindens can easily be transferred from one resident to another, but I just know that there has to be a best practice out there for making sure one gets paid for providing a service as opposed to a product.

You either must trust the person or have a trusted 3rd party hold the money in escrow. Or get paid in advance/installments.

I'm not really sure what the question is...
Are you asking about how you can make sure you get paid? Or are you asking about methods of payment and when to get paid?
The first is just a matter of trust...if you don't trust someone, don't don't do the work. Even if you have a third party to hold the money, both you and the "employer" of your services must trust the third party...so again, it's the trust thing....
If your question is about methods of payment and when to receive payment...that depends on the type of service and your client. I would use RL as a model to determine such things.
IRL, a contravctor is paid a bit up front, but most of the costs are pais are paid after the job is done. Agents for actors/athletes are paid by commision, so they get paid after the deal is completed. Agents who work for an agency are usually paid with both a salary and some sort of commission based on number of people placed.

I guess I was asking both (1) how to make sure I get paid, and (2) what methods do people use for procurring payment. But you covered both. Thank you.
