I pulled out an object called "Tip Jar Deluxe 1.100" and it asked for permission to debit. I assumed it would pay me, so I said yes. Instead of paying me it paid someone else a hundred lindens. The object is not modifiable and shows an owner of " nobody)". The lesson, I suppose, is to answer NO to requests to debit unless you are sure it is ok, and if you find one in your inventory like the one I did, to delete the rezzed object, delete the one(s) in inventory, and empty your trash.

From the Merriam Webster:
To Debit Function: transitive verb : to enter upon the debit side of an account : charge with a debit
Debit Function: noun Etymology: Latin debitum = debt 1 a : a record of an indebtedness; specifically : an entry on the left-hand side of an account constituting an addition to an expense or asset account or a deduction from a revenue, net worth, or liability account b : the sum of the items entered as debits 2 : a charge against a bank deposit account 3 : DRAWBACK, SHORTCOMING
So whoever dropped that in your invetory might have tried to trick you but you effectively authorised the tip jar to take some of your money.
When unsure which one is debit and which one is credit, check!

Or put it on www.secondcitizen.comI have to say though, Suezanne, no offence meant, but you've been in SL for two and a half years and you thought debit permission meant it was going to give you money? You didn't just click yes by accident?

From: Ordinal Malaprop Or put it on www.secondcitizen.comI have to say though, Suezanne, no offence meant, but you've been in SL for two and a half years and you thought debit permission meant it was going to give you money? You didn't just click yes by accident? The other tip jars I have pay me from my account. As an example, I have one one that Carl Metropolitan gave me so that I could give it to some performers who didn't have a tip jar. When I rez that one, and click it, it pays me from my account, not Carl. A tip jar normally takes money from the clicker and gives it to the owner. When you click on one that you own, you pay yourself. I was helping someone with tip jar code, so I pulled out several that I had. However, the ones I have that work properly don't produce a "take your money" dialog, they produce the small box with the amount buttons and an entry field. The different dialog box, the lack of amount involved, and the absence of a "Pay To" name should have woken me up. I hardly ever see that "take your money" dialog anymore. I do remember reading about people getting ripped off by saying yes, expecting to getted debited for an objects displayed price, then having a big sum removed. That could have happened to me. The small amount suggests this one I found may have just been bad coding. I should have know better, like I said. I am sleepy, I have erratic sleep patterns, that probably has something to do with my lapse in judgement. I suppose I shouldn't have deleted the thing, now I can't investigate it any more. It would have been good to see when I got it. I don't see the person's name in the inworld find people results (with online unchecked), and for that matter, no record of a post in the forums by this person either. This could easily be a piece of bad coding, not a ripoff attempt. Although the person's name doesn't show up in the find dialog, the name might be a known former alt of someone still inworld, so I will post the name in sluniverse. Just remember that sloppy coding - putting the llGetOwner in state_entry instead of on_rez, for example, could produce this result through innocent error, I think. --------------- "no offence meant" - you may not have meant offense, but I'm taking it anyway, and thus I hereby challenge you to a duel. With, umm, let's see... Flip Peregrine, Jeffrey Gomez, and, umm... everyone in the Scripters of Second Life group. Just to get it started, then Eggy Lippman, Blueman Steele, and Siggy Romulus. If they can't take you out, then I change my mind about the taking offense thing. --- I guess I'll go ahead and post this before I decide to try to take a nap and forget about it. Also, my spell checker say that "getted" is in this post and I don't see it and I can't tell what it should be. --- eyuuu - I just tried to open a popsicle and one end was already open and it fell out and I tried to stop its fall to the floor by closing my legs together and it worked. I should have let it fall.

Just for future reference, the reason an object needs debit permissions is to pay money from your account to someone else. Some vending machines require debit permission because they give back change for overpayment - however, with the advent of fast pay, this shouldn't be necessary anymore anyway. Always be wary of debit permissions unless you know exactly what the script does. A tip jar should never need debit permissions.

From: someone I don't see the person's name in the inworld find people results (with online unchecked), and for that matter, no record of a post in the forums by this person either. think you found a nice bug here also since the person that was paid does not exist any more should the system have been allowed to pay them or should an error have come up saying you cant pay said person they don't exist any more. alos From: someone eyuuu - I just tried to open a popsicle and one end was already open and it fell out and I tried to stop its fall to the floor by closing my legs together and it worked. I should have let it fall. i agree yes you should of let it fall LOL

Well your Account History on the website here should certainly identify the party that was credited in that transaction.
Hope it was a simple error and that you not only get your money back but some rest!
