Have you seen the new blurry beacon?
Just tell me why.
Just tell me who is developing all these special graphics effects for us, that are worse than the original, instead of fixing problems like inventory.
Please, someone, just tell me why we were given this new blurry beacon, tell me in words that make sense to me.
Is there ANYONE who likes this new beacon, or who thinks it is not incredibly annoying.

I'm mixed on it. On the one hand, it's aesthetically more pleasing. But on the other, it hasn't been as easy for me to locate quickly as the big, bold, in-your-face version.

It disappears now, when you get to it, instead of needing to clear the map. That is good. Blurry or not, I don't care.

I was also never able to go into "away" mode, ever, no matter what I tried. Maybe I should try that now, too, heh.

clearning the beacon has always been a little flakey. Seems about the same on the new one. As for the blurry, everytime I see it I think it hasn't rezzed yet . All in All it's not bad, not sure it's actually better though.

From: Richie Waves o.O the beacon always dissapeared when you got to it, and you could always just click on the little red arrow For me, it seemed random whether or not the beacon would disappear when you walked into it. Sometimes it would; sometimes it wouldn't. Didn't know about clicking the little red arrow. That seems convienient. The new beacon is harder to see, but looks nicer. I like that it's indicating the z-coord. It could probably be done better, but it's a start.

The old beacon used to clear when you went through it, I amused myself many a time flying exactly through it to clear it instead of just clicking on the arrow. Lately it had not been clearing itself when you ran into it, it seemed to change its behavior at some point when or after P2P came into use, I believe.
The blur I don't like, it's not as visible as it used to be. Not going down to the ground is annoying.

What I wonder is why LL refuses to make these changes optional? Such as the snapshot UI?
Do they have some kind of internal policy not to clutter up the UI with user customability options? There's a lot of stuff available in the .xml files but that isn't exposed in the UI.

It's the first step in making everything in SL blurry so that you don't notice it hasn't rezzed in over 10 minutes.

Big thumbs down: It's 2D now. If you fly up high and look down, it's just a sprite, basicly, now. Not a real 3D object.

The beacon disappearing "function" was alway sporatic for me. Sometimes it disappeared when I walked through it, sometimes it didn't. I didn't know about the "click on the arrow" thingy. I have to try that when I get back in world. The new one, I can take it or leave it. It's a little harder to see but nicer to look at, sort of. What gets me is, what wasn't fixed because they were busy developing the new fancy beacon?

Matter of half an hour maybe.

The beacon doesn't matter as much to me, I guess. I've 'seen' it, but I haven't 'noticed' it. Ever since they did away with the telehubs, it's been.. just another thing to ignore?

From: Rickard Roentgen anyway, it's not a major change. Matter of half an hour maybe. Wow, just by coincidence, that is exactly how long it takes for my own home to rez! Ok, I am exaggerating ... a little.

A lot of things havent been working the way they used to in this patch. Create a new object on the groun and edit it. Go to its content tab and click on the "new script" button. This used to open up a new script window. Now it automaticly saves a new script into the contents and makes the object say "Hello, Avatar!". God it makes me feel like a newb when my objects say that...
Also the new beacon has many flaws. Though i do like how it looks when cheesey beacon is enabled, i think the marker its self needs to start at ground level like it always did. Plus it should clear when you reach it's position. Those are my only complaints. I don't care about the grey siding or the flashyness right now. They don't seem to hurt me, but yea "functionality over visuality" is the key!

Beacon isn't a big deal. Looks less cel-cartoony now, anyway.
But don't let me stop this a-chuggin' drama train! lol.

Things that make you say "Why?"
08-30-2006 05:19
From: Yiffy Yaffle This used to open up a new script window. Now it automaticly saves a new script into the contents Afterall, why would we necessarily want to edit a new script ? Mostly I just need objects that say "Hello Avatar !".
