Greetings everyone.. I am new to posting to forums.so i dont know if im doing this right so here goes. I have found in my many travels about the grid that there are no "cops" as far as the main grid is concerned besides calling in a linden i was wandering if a merc team has backing from a sim could they patrol and defend sims. The gorup i started basically fights off griefers we generally stay out of peoples way and silently patrol. Im aware that there are abuse loggers and such but ive wanted to do something different. so far ive seen people get jobs as builders, planners, club hosts, dancers, escorts thats just to name a few. So i thought what about mercinaries in a way we are more like rent-a cops heheh using detain scripts to keep offenders from fleeing and causing trouble elsewhere getting thier names and submitting them to the sim owners to keep offenders out. i have seen a few armys in some sims but usually they are just tied to that particular sime i have some ideas on how this should work.
1.the sim owner should give all members on a team dated and signed notecards saying we are employed by them(thus not making us seem like griefers our selves in the event of a firefight)and keeping us from getting into trouble.
2.members will keep a log when they are on duty.
3.members would only use force when attacked mainly using detain scripts(so no one else gets harmed by a firefight)
Im sure ill have more to add to this later my main inspiration for this is some areas of sl are...well ...dangerous for now im a wanderer as is my small band one day i thought what if my place is no place most people have jobs on sl that are in the same spot everytime i like to travel so....start a merc group i said..see the world i said..

Our group name in sl is Aegis Vires(Shield Force in latin) i would like to have my ducks in a row before something or someone goes wrong..

No.

The moment you 'fight back' you are open to be reported by the griefers. LL doesnt want you to fight back.

Bad idea. Let the Lindens enforce the TOS. We don't need mercenaries here.

No.

Being a vigilante doesn't help the situation and will get you reported. Land owners who are having problems with griefers can implement security scripts that will eject people who are known to make trouble.

Most 'enforcer' groups usually die off kinda fast. I lost count of groups trying to police the sandboxes. The only way to deal with greifers is to AR, AR, and carry something to orbit the little shits the second they cause trouble.

There's been probably 100 enforcer groups running on that exact description more or less. It's been done, and it always has failed. Mainly because 1.) fighting back in LL's eyes puts you on pretty much the same level as the griefers and 2.) Paying a team to fight back against griefers who appear once a day at most, once a month at average is inefficient and expensive for clubs when they have security scripts that do it better and for free. And on that subject, using push weapons and detain scripts really isn't that useful against people as a defensive measure, if not using tracking scripts then you might shoot innocents, and if using tracking scripts then you may lag the same and are basically doing the same job a security orb does.

You can play Merc in SL and run around in the costumes and all that but don't expect to get taken seriously or paid.

If you wanna do this kind of thing, wait until(?) LL opens the grid up a bit and they don't own all the servers. Because then it really will be the wild west and vigilante justice will happen more frequently.

Still not a good idea, but...

I think they mean wait until the day you can run your own sim(s) on your own hardware and under your own rules.

Exactly what I'm doing with STLKR, and others are doing. We all need to group together and have a little fun.

Perception is everything

If you ask to be paid for security services, then you're a security company. There are a few SL companies that do this, and some do rather well.

There are other groups that try to keep the peace that aren't security companies, and they're more welcome in general than you'd think from listening to the small but vocal minority that seems to populate the forums. Most people don't carry weapons or shields, and are actually grateful for help if they can get it when they need it.

Perception is everything, though, and few of these groups have the discipline necessary to keep from being lumped in with the griefers themselves. What's fun is seeing two such groups going at each other because they each think the other group is a griefer group - "Hey, they're shooting at us, let's get the griefers!" So that's something you'll probably want to avoid.

I like the group name, too, by the way, and wish you well.
