Lately I have noticed more so than usual and perhaps since the end of my semi-hiatus from SL that I am frequently being spammed via peoples calling card lists to "Come to (fill in the blank) event" every single hour or by one particular vending group I belong to for a club/mall where a couple people repetitively IM the whole group with nothing more than "TP PLS".
Its fucking aggravating people, to be in the middle of doing something and getting unwanted unsolicitied SHIT from you. I don't want to be rude and tell people to bugger off in IM's or have to leave groups or go into busy mode all of the time or delete their calling cards. But, ferchrissakes make a do not call folder or somthing and for the love of feet put my calling card in it.
*NO, I do NOT want to come to your event of the hour. I don't care who is DJing and how many hot sexy tringo thong money chair ball licking dwellbots there are. Leave me alone. I have MORE important things to do. Plus it makes you look desperate.
*NO, I will NOT TP you PLS because I am probably not where you want to be TPed to. You have calling cards people, first track down and see who is at the club and IM Them, Not the whole damned group. Its rude and makes you look really stupid.
Please note that, I, however, do not mind being sent invitations and notifications of special events from friends and whatnot. But, do not for the love of cats IM conference your entire calling card list every single hour. Its annoying and even if I had the slightest inclination towards attending your event, I would refrain from doing so on the pricipal that you are really annoying me.
<takes a deep breath, end rant>

I hafta agree this is SUPER annoying, especially when they just keep on spamming.
We need some kind of proposal!

What REALLY annoys me is it happening in the mentor and instructor group, or both at the same time with the same event.. Or someone IMing the mentor group asking where to buy the best prim hair.. It never happened when Char was around

It used to not matter that much, but in the past few month is has gotten out of hand. The rule is now, if I dont know you, and you spend me a notecard with no IM along with it, you are AR'd. I got so sick of working and having notecard pop up from people I don't know giving me shit.
Can we get some privacy tools in SL? Day glo water is nice, but a little privacy would be better.

how about a group channel mute?
12-04-2005 11:08
I think it would be killer if we could mute group channels when we want to. I was in a group for a few days, I liked them, I like slitches a lot, cool people I did NOT like having to listen to the group channel sometimes tho. I would love to have been able to just simply turn off 'group chat' like I can in Anarchy online, you can tune into guild (group) chat or not as you like. if we had a channel mute then you could mute those channels when your not in the mood to deal with the socialisation goin on over them =)

It never happened when Char was around Anytime I have ever IMed my calling card list or groups that I am an officer in I have always prefixed them with "Sorry for the spam".... then whatever I am IMing them about. Granted this happens a few times a year so its not a heinous act on my part. I think if just once, someone prefixed their spam with this I would not be so irked about it. Its common courteosy. I guess since I work in non-profit development I am keenly aware of how we approach situations such as this. Every development database has some sort of classification of solicit codes for contacting members etc. such as, No mailings of any kind, Invitations only, no telemarketing etc. which we use when pulling lists for mailings or if we happen to be making phonecalls that would fall into the telemarketing category. Granted its not a fool proof method, but it does work to the best that it can.

Yes, muting group channels would be wonderful. I left a few groups a while back because they would not stop spamming.

Group-Mute would be way awesome, agreed.
Typically when someone I don't know well calling-card spams me repeatedly, I:
-Heckle them in the 'Confrence IM' for spamming -(Usually once the ice is broken on that, others join in expressing their disdain) -Delete the calling card
If its group spam, that's a little different. But if it gets out of control, I'd just leave the group. Groups are commonly used as a group communication mechanism, and I think its okay to use them for that purpose in moderation.

I'm a member of very few groups because of this very thing. It sucks that I'll miss out on real group events because of it, but not belonging to groups at all is better than the hourly desperate pleas to come to your Ho-Down. No, thanks. If you want me there, then invite me individually. If you're just looking for green dots to fill your place up and give the illusion you're popular, move along. I'll stick with only neccessary groups and being stingy with my calling card until they put some restrictions on mass-IMing.

This is one of several reasons why I almost never take cards.

Ragnarok Online: "Heal Plz!" Me: "Give Zeny"
Therefore:
SL: "TP PLS!" You: "Give L$"
Simple.

On a lateral note, maybe TP PLZ requests will be fewer when we get P@P ROX! (aka P2P teleportation), which is not that far away. After all, if you can make it to the place yourself on time, such is a convenience. Nice way to look at it eh? And as nice as I prefer to be, I've del'ed calling cards before for redundancy. It ain't dandy.

We also need a "please don't give shit to me while I am offline and not even have the courtesy to tell me what you gave to me so I know what to look for" list.

kthnxbye Good one Cris. Everytime I go through my inventory I find invitations to things I missed and lots of hair/clothing that I didn't know I had. (Thankfully alot of peple *star* their objects/folders so they show up at the top of the list.) Granted I am bad about that myself. I wonder if it would be just a matter of somehow shifting the online message to be the same as the online message when you are logged on. So instead of so and so offered you inventory log in yada yada yada it would say Avatar X offered you the object Whatever its called please log in etc.
