Lately I have observed an increased usage of the *gasp* "G-Word" in many other posts ... the word "Game" ... and without the usual barrage of "Its not a game" responses.
Why is this? With all of LL's recent actions, is it that people begining to take SL less seriously ... Losing confidence? Or is it just a coincendence.
Just a curious observation.

"Victim of The Game" - Garth Brooks

"Victim Of The Game" Well, it took a little time But I guess you finally learned That promises get broken And bridges do get burned You've been siftin' through the ashes Just tryin' to find a flame Holdin' on to nothin' You're a victim of the game You were standin' way too close To see it all fall apart And there were things you couldn't hear 'Cause you were listenin' with your heart But you can't say I didn't warn you Now there's no one else to blame There's on one quite as blind As a victim of the game And it don't matter who you are It treats everyone the same All you need's a heart To be a victim of the game You know it's really gettin' to you When you take to tellin' lies And you can try to fool your friends But yo can't look 'em in the eye There ain't no standin' tall In the shadow of the shame When everybody knows That you're a victim of the game And it don't matter who you are It treats everyone the same All you need's a heart To be a victim of the game Oh, you know, when I look into your eyes I can really feel the pain Starin' in the mirror At a victim of the game (No, I'm not getting sappy)

Perhaps people have finally begun to wake up and realise that they have been taking this game too seriously all along.
Welcome to the reality of virtuality.

It is refreshingly strange see the word "game" used so frequently as of late, and without the usual thread derailing arguements of "OMGZ YOU SCHLEP, ITS NOT A GAME ... ITSA (fill your choice of word here)". Maybe with the upcoming forum closings, all the drama energies have been focused elsewhere.

Game is not a bad word. I have used that word to describe SL in order to distinguish it from real life work. Game means fun, and to many, that's what SL is about. Many people make money from games such as poker, cards, and MMORPGs, so referring to SL as a game does not detract from one's opportunity to use it as a source of income. Any venue, or platform, that allows exploration and expression of imagination and fun is fairly included within the parameters of a game. It's not a bad characterization, and I never understood why people become so upset when the word game is used to describe SL.

Just a curious observation. I don't think you have to restrict it to LL's recent actions, but more to their overall actions since Philip gave the platform spiel. People who wanted to utilize it as a platform, which it very well could have developed into, supported this notion. As LL's actions failed to support this direction, in fact often standing in direct opposition to it, people's "wait and see" attitude transformed into "I see".

From: Lewis Nerd Perhaps people have finally begun to wake up and realise that they have been taking my hair too seriously all along. I've never taken it too seriously since day #1. It''s a source of recreation for me and I really don't want it to become more than that - at least for now.

As the world has grown I see people using SL in different ways. Some browse on already created content, others use the tools to build their own projects from the ground up, and every possible shade in between.
