From: Mick Linden Our technicians are currently addressing and working on a resolution to the presence information issue. They can't work on a resolution test it then take the grid down and apply it? Presence info doesn't strike me as an exploit producing problem that requires taking the grid down to fix.

It might if it involves modifications to the login/authentication servers and/or account database. Honestly, I dunno one way or the other.

Honestly, I dunno one way or the other. They make and test these modifications DIRECTLY on the live servers?

From: Jon Rolland They make and test these modifications DIRECTLY on the live servers? Seems to me like they do, I mean, how the hell did they screw up that whole inventory problem yesterday? Oh, I remember.... they applied a patch to a production server before even verifying ti was configured correctly, AND during a time when MANY MANY people were logged on. here is what I dont get: a minor annoyance as in being in game not seeing your friends light up but being able to go to the page and see them listed in your friends online is an issue that they need to close the grid for... anyone else seen the bug list or looked at the known issues and that some are severe issues having to do with stability... how about this ever growing lag that we seem to be plagued with... or maybe hmmm how about the rezzing issues.
Come on LL lets get the major stuff fixed while your down... cause presence issue does not seem worth a full day downtime that effects our income... IN NY when a power line is down they kill a section at a time to resolve it in a rolover fashion... Now in a major event sure shut it all down.

I just think it would be nice for them to put an estimated time on when it is going to reopen, but then again...when is that time ever really correct.
I'm not really expecting the game to reopen anytime soon as the latest update says they will "provide us with an estimate time when they know of one" and it's already been down how many hours..
ahhh well, i'll just keep watching about the plastic surgery fanatics..atleast i'm getting some amusement knowing that people actually pay to get a bigger ass.

Jerkholios! Agreed. I mean, there's probably people losing money because of this unecessary downtime.

Jerkholios! Yeah but what happens when you end up shit creek without a paddle? It would be crazy to take a motor powered boat out without the motor working and only having paddles!
