We know there are some problems, and are looking at it. Most likely will clear out as people log off but we're checking to make sure nothing else is going on.

:(

The system should be designed to take a lot of people.

What keeps you in SL, Magnum?

I mean, you only seem motivated to post when you're displeased. But since you stay, obviously the negative can't be the whole of your story. So, what's the positive side for you?

104 AVs in the sim at the preview, but can it handle that many logging in at once? (P.S. not sure how many this system can handle, but it's not doing too well.)

I believe you should note how many dis-pleasing tech messages I post over time and you will see that they are extremely low.

SL is almost always up. I think we can stand a little downtime every once in a while.

Magnum, some bad news.

I made some phone calls. It would seem that the preview grid is, in fact, causing log in troubles. That, or the shut down of a small Frito-Lay distribution center in Ann Arbor, MI. We're not sure which, but there's a taskforce deployed as of five minutes ago with the following objectives:

- Get the Preview Grid offline

- Re-open the Frito-Lay DC

They anticipate resolution of this issue within the next 48 hours. I'll keep you posted.

48 hours?

Well, I would agree, restore the Frito-Lay ASAP

oh yeah, and take out the preview grid

I wanna log in!

While it is frustrating to not be able to log in, SL's uptime has been remarkable for a system of its complexity, and LL should be acknowledged for that. What I find far more disturbing, however, is this post, which refers to yet another inventory loss.

I went outside for awhile. Now it works. I firmly believe at least half of problems people experience with SL can be resolved by going outside! (Mostly social issues though!)

I went outside, but it was too cold so I am back in now.

Yes Login is a pain, but it will be ok soon.

I really wonder sometimes how I can be so positive...

I received a report from the task force early this morning. They'd only succeeded in taking out the Preview Grid. I guess we figured out what was causing the trouble. I pulled them back. The Frito-Lay portion of the operation was aborted.

Did you um, smoke any herbs while outside Huns? Cause that could also do wonders for issues and problems.

A gentle reminder that sometimes if you have probs getting in the Main Grid, it may help to download Second Life 1.7 Preview from here:

http://secondlife.com/preview

and see if you can get in that. I've come across Resis who had firewall blocking probs that were application-specific and they found this out only after blocking 1.6 and they could get into 1.7, so that figuratively cleared the lump for them. Other issues with routers and things too...

Also, 1.7 runs on a different database, so inventory problems and the like affecting 1.6 will not likely crossover. Something to keep in mind if you're frustrated and can't get in—at least it'll be a relief you can log into SL some way, and maybe you can play around and send in a few bug reports to make the future a brighter place to be, while you're at it. :)
