Hey guys.
My friend and I are attending a wedding in a few days. This is the first SL wedding for the both of us. Does anyone know what's an appropriate gift? I'm not sure about the manners when it comes to all SL activities.
Thanks!

I had a friend who liked wolves so I gave him a wolf carpet that howled when touched, and to another I gave a set of paintings in a style I though she would appreciate. It all varies, make sure whatever you pick is something you'll think they'll like. Doesn't matter if it cost you 0l or 5k l.

The answer to this question depends on a lot of things... whether you make things yourself, whether you have a lot of spare lindens swilling around, how well you know the people etc.

Some friends produced a wonderful album of photographs and poetry after my SL partnership ceremony. One collected pictures during the festivities, and some before, and took note of the vows we made to each other etc. It was a lovely personal gift, and I loved it.

You can get free photograph albums and books, or make a slideshow of photographs if that's too complicated.

If you have the extra Lindens, buying something that they might not be able to buy otherwise could be a nice thing, but does depend upon you knowing them fairly well. In the past a Starax wand would have been a wonderful gift :-(.

If you know that they have a favourite designer or furniture store, you could arrange a gift certificate. If you make things in SL you could make a special item or special edition.

If they are casual friends and you don't have a lot of Linden to spare, just buy some flowers, a nice candle or a small decorative gift. The shop on Serenite has some reasonable and pretty things.

If they are close friends and you don't have a lot of Lindens to spare, why not do something personal for them? I can think of a few ideas: if you know that they have a particular interest, you could search out all the places in SL which are related, and provide landmarks and a small description; search the freebie places like Stillman Bazaar, Yadni's Junkyard etc for things you could adapt or retexture to make nice gifts; or upload a really lovely picture (10 linden) and frame it for them. I love http://www.artrenewal.org for pictures.

My partner made our friends a scripted toaster that popped temp-on-rez toast when touched.

I'm still not sure they 'got it', so I'm damn well giving that to everyone I know who marries until someone appreciates it :(

Some friends did this for us for our ceremony too, it was a beautiful gift and one we still cherish.

Another thing I like to do is create a special "after the ceremony" gift for the couple. Something along these lines:
A picnic blanket (just upload a nice texture)
A nice cuddle pose set
a couple of candles
A nice little wine bottle and glasses on a tray (available at places like kitchen creations or simply make your own, its really just for show anyway)
Arrange everything then pick it all up into your inventory in one peice (using edit mode and select each item as if you are going to link them, then just "take" them into your inventory together without actually linking)
Put the "object" (the whole arranged set still semi-linked) into a nice gift box along with a notecard explaining that the person needs to be in edit mode when they drop the things on the ground so they'll all stay together)
And Viola - portable honeymoon in a box

that is very sweet... if it was me I would of appreciate it... :-)

To answer this post... Linden is the best way to go. When I got married in game I used the linden more and the gift certificates that I received.

Of course the other gifts were great appreciated also. I am still opening gifts!! and the wedding was back in April... sometimes takes time, especially with the way SL is with inventories.

One of my best gifts was by Karamel from Kitchen Korner. Was a nice picnic basket and inside there were TONS of great things for a nice picnic!

i made a wedding picture album that rezes the pics in sucession, its not hard to make, get a texture changer type of script (theres scads of free ones) and add it to a prim. Make a special texture for the couple, their names and date of wedding, etc. put in a note card on how it works, and there ya go.
