What is the best way to find jobs in SL???

Well, since I run a newbie place, "The Free Dove" many newbies ask me they need jobs.

So, what is everyones opinion about finding jobs in SL? I mean, I tell them there is everything out there,

*designing and building* create and sell
escorting *cough*
Hosting
store attendant
model
magazine editor

Funny thing is that, nobody wants to do a thing. I have hired people that seem excited with the jobs I offered, once they realize they have to work they say "sorry, I thought I could do it, but real life got in the way" but then I see them a lot online. They only last one week.. :(

Well, some I know they say that for real thou.

People want easy jobs, but they dont want to work.

I tell newbies, to type, "jobs" in classified and find jobs that way.

Any ideas on how to help a newbie find a job in SL?

Same thing, Pal, i pay people 3000 Linden a week, i ask to be on my land 6 hours a week and send me a notecard with the names of people they brought to my land and helped. It seems most just love the Lindens but after two weeks the intention to actualy do something for that money is 0.

I have no problem to motivate people in my rl business, in SL im about to give up, it's pure ignorance, stupidness and lazyness galore.

I know Viv it's a great salary and people are nuts who don't jump at the chance to earn like that. Unfortunately you're right Leyla a lot just want easy money and not even have to work the minimum. I've seen it where I work.
Consider using a clock in method like we have. They have to be there to earn their pay and as we are an extremely busy store they will end up becoming part of the team and helping customers.

These people are too lazy.If they really knew how hard it is to earn money in SL they'd certainly appreciate 3k.All they have to do is spend an hour or two a day and they'd get 3k.I think you should make them get day jobs like dancing and let them see how hard it is to make a tip.LOL

Not only that, you offer them simple, descent jobs, fun. A great shop attendant for example. To be attentive to customers.

I have offered free rent in my apartments. Apartments that are rent for 600L weekly. They see it like, "aww boring" I want tons of lindens without doing anything. However they live good good, with the best furniture, with land for them so they dont have to pay for tier. Even extra prims.

But when is time to work for them, no, too much, "real life is in the way"

Oh wait.. I have offer, very detailed jobs, like Mall Manager and good hosting. Not even telling them how many events. Just I tell them, do as much as you can. Do your work according to your best judgement in your online time. BUT NO!!!

People just like easy stuff!!

Keep in mind that the "great" 3000L rate is less than $2US/hr. "Where can I get a job?" is a common newb question, but it's the question that's lacking, not the answers--most newbs figure out pretty quickly that they're better off getting a RL job and buying their $Ls. Otherwise, start building a business.

Of course, it's impossible to communicate that to new resis--just keep telling them "escort, host, manage sims," and let them find out for themselves.

I wouldn't spend time worrying about it, I would simply point out that if they want to make a decent amount of money, they need to put in a decent amount of effort. If they don't want to put in a decent amount of effort, point them to Lindex.

think people want things the easy way.

I think Plomma and Leyla have a right to complain since they sounded like they were paying well above what they were asking in return.

There is maybe an aversion many people have to having to "work" in SL.

However those same people have no aversion to wanting a lot of high quality "stuff" in SL.

The hard working people are all too busy working for far less generous terms than posters mentioned here. Story of life - all the good ones are taken.

Aye, it depends on their motivation. If they're motivated by the money, then there are next to no jobs in SL that will satisfy that motivation. Those who are, will need to put the effort into learning to create, and/or start their own business.

Its possible too many people seek to connect L$ and the USD$ all the time. A lot of people in game who want jobs are not constantly making those comparisions.

Of course any job in SL is going to pay bad by RL standards. Thats becuase things in SL arent worth as much RL money as things IRL.

Also Jobs give you a chance to meet people and get involved. Since SL is a social game - this is a pretty important fringe benifit.

pride in your work

Personally I feel this whole issue boils down to one thing and one thing only. There are people out there who no matter what they do be it sweeping a floor or makeing anything take pride in what they do. Those are the people that you need to find and hang onto. On the other hand there are alot of people who will go it's a game meh I just want the money. Once again that's them. Me personally I was lucky and had a friend who ran a store and after hanging out there was offered a job. While working that job I have meet many wonderfull people and made a number of good friends.....Now I have to go hide..cause zore and viv will probably beat me.

I think that is #1 rule we tell when we interview. They all seem excited and wanting the job. Yay!!!!! you found the perfect candidate for the job!!!!!!, A week passed and they realized is too hard for them. Why? they want easy. Then here you come and have to start all over again.

Then you see them online and escorting... oh well, that is what they want to do I guess...

But, repititive hiring, over and over and over again. Actually, I gave up, I am doing my job. It is all I can do.

Keep in mind that the less then 2 US$ is payed for something that cant be considered working. Bring 6 people a week to the free things i have for newbies, show them around and explain the basics of SL, learn them how to buy Lindens and make sure they see our team as friendly and helpful and SL as a wonderful world. All for the purpose one day they will come spend their Linden. On top of that the ones who work for me get everything i sell for free. I skin, dress and shoe them.

Isnt too hard, yes?
Well, it seems so...

Im all for people buying Linden, its just boggling that there is so many complains about not being able to have a decent job in SL and the moment they have one they are too lazy to get of their butt. One of them had the nerves to just log in on monday for 1.5 hour. Yes, monday is payday :D
Not to mention all the IM i get to borrow money wich i never get back of course.
All i need is a tattoo on my avatar's forehead: SL Wellfare

Palomma I teach a new-players class. In that class I address the subject of jobs and money. The thing I always tell newbs is "don't get a job unless you are doing it for fun." If its work -- then consider buying money on lindex.

I work at Bare Rose. I CERTAINLY don't work there for the money. As a matter of fact, Zore is always having to remind me to clock in. But I work there because I love the store, I love the people, and I just love hanging out there. Its really not even work. I've met so many cool people there.

Before it closed down, I worked at the Phoenix Spa. I didn't do that for the money either. I did it because it was stuff I loved to do.

I have a 2-5k a week shopping habit. Really I do. I love to shop. One of my most favoritist things to do in SL is find a new shop with things I've never seen before.

Now... 3k a week would about fund my shopping habit. And I don't make near that at BR. hmmmmm

Naw... it wouldn't be as much fun :D But it was neat to think about for a moment or two.

Anyways my advice is to tell newbs to buy money, but that if they want to work they should do it to meet people and have fun.

That's pretty much my line when I'm menting. I tell them, "Don't worry about a job at first. Explore, play with the tools, and see who you meet and what you like to do. In most cases, you're better off buying $Ls off the exchange."

I think a lot of them just come in thinking of SL as a game where the goal is to make money, which it can be, but need not.

The Value Of Money
08-09-2006 17:11
I work as a dancer and its very hard to earn tips.It kinda reminds me of when my dad tries to teach me the value of money.I think in SL its far too easy to slack off.If the people Leyla and Palomma are hiring really knew what a struggle it is to make money in SL then they'd probably work a lot harder. When I was event hosting I'd host as many events as I could a day so I could make money.
